There Is Hope With Jesus

I used to be on this board many years ago with a few different login names which I can't recall now.

I was here because my adult daughter was an addict and alcoholic. Her drugs of choice were shooting heroin and smoking and shooting crack. She would try anything though. She got diseases from her i.v. drug use. She constantly had absesses and staph infections all the time and was constantly in and out of the hospital & E.R.'s. She was in jail over and over again. I was always so happy because then I knew where she was, could write her, knew she had food and clothes & shelter. Don't ever bail your addicted or alcoholic loved one out of jail. It's the best place for them and you can sleep at night. Finally, one good judge had had enough of her constant arrests & short jail terms and sent her to prison for 2 1/2 years.

It sure opened her eyes. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord in prison and it changed her life for the better.

She had one slip up and immediately went to a detox and then was caught with the drugs in her system (from the detox). They sent her back to prison but she was able to prove the drugs were legal for her so she was only in there for a few weeks and they let her out.

She has been working diligently and has gotten married recently to a really great guy who is also recovering and strong in his program. She has never been so happy and I am so grateful and so proud of her. Jesus heard our prayers & He has delivered her, redeemed her, and rescued from destruction. She is on medication for her conditions and doing well in taking care of herself.

I know Jesus, too, and I could not have made it in my life without Him. I would not be here without Him.

So.... this is just a word of hope for those of you who have none. If my daughter can do it, ANYBODY can do it.

If you don't know Jesus, say this simple prayer: "Lord, thank you for dying for my sins. I believe you were raised from the dead & alive today & able to save me. I ask you to come into my heart & life. Thank you. Amen."

Blessings to all!

P.S. My daughter & her husband attend AA meetings and NA meetings constantly. They have to to remind themselves that it can be so easy to slip up again. I attended al-anon meetings which is for the families and loved ones of alcoholics and addicts and the meetings and the readings from the books helped me tremendously. The program emphasizes that a "higher Power" can help bring you to sanity. That higher power for me was Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
I am a Christian in recovery - both as a recovering addict and more recently in family support programs such as Al Anon. I am very, very careful about sharing this in meetings, particularly for those in early recovery who are often turned off by a religious tone.

It is very common for addicts and alcoholics, who are active in their usage, to obtain a strong bias against religion under the idea of, "Don't tell me about God. My family and friends preach about God and then turn their back on you when the chips are down". This is a common issue.

The AA Big Book does an excellent job of portraying the Higher Power concept. They keep the main thing the main thing: Helping people find sobriety and a better way to live.

Hi! I am a Christian too! Praise be to Jesus for fellow believers! I am so glad your daughter is doing well. I pray this for my son every day! And many family and friends are praying for him too! Please pray for him if you will. All addicts need this hope in the Lord, everyone does!

Jer. 29:11: "For I know the plans I have in mind for you says the Lord, plans for your welfare not for woe, plans to give you a future and a hope."

Love,
Ingrid
