Hi all, I just thought I'd share my new hobby with you, coz us recovering addicts are always looking for good stuff to do when we're at a loose end. Well I've spent the day finding out how I can save loads of cash, on just about everything. I've been watching Martin Lewis's tv programme, on how to make your cash go much further - for those who aren't in the UK, martin Lewis is the "money saving expert". I checked out his website, and have been going through my finances. So I'm reclaiming all past banks charges for the last 6 years. I've just switched my gas and leccy suppliers, and not only am I saving about 200 a year, I'm getting cash back as well. I've saved loads of my house insurance, and travel insurance. There's loads of tips on his website, about how to save on everything from digital tv, to groceries. And actually it's pretty good fun, as well as making me richer. I'd thoroughly recommend going over your finances with a fine tooth comb, and seeing just how much more money I'm gonna have extra in my bank account at the end of the month. It's amazing how much we waste by just being lazy, and not shopping around. The great thing about his website is he tells you exactly what to do, and what comparison sites to use, and in which order, and how long it will take you. He knows all the loopholes, and posts them on his site. It's well worth having a look. I'm sure that you have people like him in the states, so do it, it will make you richer.
I know I sound like a nerd, but I'm a better off nerd than I was this morning!

Hey Diff, I like your style. I also re-claimed bank charges, I shop around for groceries, and have duel fuel with a cheap gas/electric company. I also re-sell anything that I dont use or wear...yes including clothes and shoes, you would be suprised how much you make from unwanted items. One persons junk is anothers treasure. I also buy things in bulk if they are on special offer...one of Kevins little tips...lol.
A little goes a very long way if you just spend the time shopping around.

I'm in the states but, there are tons of money saving tips out there for us here also. I have ALWAYS been a coupon cutter lol. I check the libary 1st before i buy any book. I shop second hand shops "thrift stores". I won't buy gas when it's real high i fill up when it's lower in price. Necessity is the mother of invention and Having kids makes you watch how much your spending.
I know i waste a lot "sigh",
i'm terrible for impulse buys and i'm just as bad about buying off the net. My credit score is so very sad. I'm just now learing screwing up your cerdit score is a terrible thing to do. My fiance has a score of 780 he can walk in anywhere walk out with whatever he wants. My score is 548 lol i can't get anything from anywhere I have 9 companies i'm in debt with. In fact he won't marry me till that debt is gone.
Protecting your credit is a awsome way to be sure you'll be okay. That bad credit score is more then just a number.
P.S I don't think your a nerd at all your a momma now these things are important.

Cool, Diff. It gets to be a bit like a sport after you get a taste for it. My husband and I make decent, but not extravagant money - I mean, sfter all I'm a lowly teacher and we don't exactly make huge $$. And I started late in life as a career change so I can't retire at 55 like some teachers.
Anyway, we have friends who make much more and don't have half of what we do. My husband has been on his own since he was 17 and has always watched his money - he had to with no one to bail him out of youthful mistakes. We live modestly, but quite nicely and own two vacation/income properties on our very average incomes. We're just careful and not about instant gratification (though I confess to above-average shoe and handbag purchasing =)
Keep doing it and you'll save plenty for you and your "little miss"

Check out Diff and her neat hobby.......I thought ya were going to say what to do when bored is pack for your trip.
A good one is to have someone GIVE you and item and then come and retrieve it off ya like they only lended it to ya.........then go and buy a brand new one of lesser value and they give ya by mistake the super value item.
HAHA, Diff I am so messing with ya.
O.K. I confess I did this once..........I wrote a company that I always but their product and I am talking for many years at full price........I told them so but this one time the product must have been packaged wrong cause it was light.....and yeah man they sent me a free $4.00 coupon........it kind of was a white lie, but let me tell ya that free coupon for a lousey $4.00 made my week.
Don't tell nobody I did that.........man, I never cut coupons..........my mom never did............but Tres's mom had a coupon ROOM..........I remember she rocked that coupon stuff.............nice one, Diff.........and ZG you could hit them thrift stores with my mom and Tres they so love that stuff.

I am the worst with $--and i dont make much, i can barely get a bank account--thers some check writing bureau these days where if youve ever had a bounced check they report you to the banks and the banks wont give you an account--therefore i d o all transactions with cash--BAD IDEA!! i am an impulsaholic!! and my son readily takes advantage of my issue....LOL im trying hard and learning fast that i gotta be more carefull....it sucks bigtimie to be totally broke then when you get paid your handing out cash to people you borrowed from....sigh....the life of a single mother.....poor me....ouch my butt is stuck to this dang pity pot---help i cannot feel my legs...grab my hand...pull me off LOL
Hey, just got myself some FREE highspeed broadband! (picture me doing a victory dance). So far today I've made myself 31 a month better off, for about half an hours work - that's about 400 a year, and with what I saved yesterday too, that's a holiday that I otherwise couldn't afford. And that isn't including my free landline calls that I get with the free broadband too. I'm feeling positively chuffed with my moneysaving drive.

Oh yeah, and when you switch your utilities, they give you 15 cash back. If you recommend a friend, you get another 10 per service.
And Bryn, I know which side my bread is buttered. Did I mention free butter? From the coupon...
I'm really enjoying myself here. I've always wanted to be a penny pincher, but never had the courage to admit it. One of those really smug muthas, who make ya sick. Yep, it's shameless, an orgy of thriftyness. Nothing this good can be legal, surely?
Ho Ho!
Diff, finally outta the closet...

Hey Diff -
Thought you might enjoy doing a little reading about this woman
Amy Dacyczyn. (pronounced like 'decision')
In the 1990s she got quite a name for herself here in the states by publishing a rag called Tightwad Gazette. The little money-saving, frugal lifestyle newsletter made her famous and she made all kinds of TV appearances doing interviews with Oprah, David Letteman, etc.
Eventually she stopped the newsletter, but compiled all her tips into two or three books, ultimately combining them into a single volume titled The Complete Tightwad Gazette , which I got on Amazon.com. She's got a bunch of kids that she and her husband raised on his modest income. Naturally, she went to extremes that you and I might not be willing to go to, but still. Now, of course, she needn't worry as she made oodles of cash off of her frugal ways. Anyway, she's the mistress of frugality in these parts. Enjoy...
Have a good weekend~MomNMore

Ah nothing like a good bargain. My latest and best was a nice carved wood breadbox from goodwill for $12.99. One of those that they sell at craft fairs for about $40.
I love saving money, just recently started clipping coupons again. I thought I was going to do fairly well, but nowadays in order to save a buck you have to buy 2 of the item. Dylan is thrilled to have two boxes of the go-gurt fizzle bars. I thought I would do good with my 50cent off coupon on TP this week but the SOB's at Walmart raised the price $1.25...big whoop. Oh and then I went to return a box of Triscuits bc I had bought 2 and didn't really like the flavor, all of a sudden they don't take food items back without a receipt...bite my boo-hiney Sammie Walmart!
I need to find another hobby, I've been thinking about making a wreath for my front door. I'm a whiz with a hot glue gun. I sure would love to do some paint-by-numbers, but I never did have the patience to let each color dry. I used to sew all my clothes, but I just love buying them already made now. Besides, I don't have a working sewing machine and I'm sure that it wouldn't work to well with my neck and back pain anyway.
Anyway, kudos to you chickies out there saving the big bucks.
I am most likely going to get another free month of HD tv cause I've already have 8 service calls within the past month. I'm about ready to tell them to only charge me $5 instead of 13.95 bc NBC and CBS, the two main stations I watch freeze up and the dialogue sounds like they're talking under water. Matter of fact, it's got to say something when you have the cable co. phone number memorized. PS I already talked to them tonight and they are coming tomorrow btw 3 and 5.
Oh and Bryn, I didn't forget about the email that I owe you, it's been a busy day today and last night was a lazy one.
Time for me to cut out and finish watching this show. For some reason I don't wire down well when I'm on the computer.
