Thinking Og Packing Up

So no opportunities on the job front here in NJ. I found out I can collect unemployment forever if I enroll in some classes- -not forever, but like another 6 months after the 1st 9 months are done- - Man, I think if Im out of work for that long something bad will happen- -thats way to much free time , only taking a few classes to keep busy.
Here's the deal- -How many of you guys are from Florida? A very close friend of mine that I worked with for many years, and coached baseball with for many years- called me > he offered me a position where he works in Tampa. He,s an accountant- (Im not) but the position he offered me sounds terrific. Of course the pay isnt as high as NJ,s wages are - but its not bad .
the problem is - while in my younger days I was a traveling man living everywhere from Boston, to LA, to Denver to Albuquerque and places inbetween.
Now at 52 yrs old Im very hesitant to leave the Jersey/NewYork area- it really is in my blood.
Besides I have my Mom here and a 23 yr old kid- -who would stay behind
My kid might follow later on- after (if) I settle in*
I think Im going down there in a few weeks for the interview and check things out- -right when its about 150 degrees- - anyone have any thoughts on theTampa area. Of course ,I need a mdone clinic- but Im hearing a lot of bad things about life down there (lotta drugs,) - but hell Im in NY/NJ how much more could there be- -

Hey Jack...as you know I'm the Boston area, but I have a lot of family in the Tampa/Clearwater area, several in a beautiful Greek community called Tarpon Springs. I think it sounds like a great opportunity and you have nothing to lose by checking it out. As for the drugs, they're everywhere as you know, probably moreso in Tampa than the outlying areas, but certainly not much worse than NY/NJ. The cost of living is somewhat lower and the lifestyle is slower, there's a good music scene down there and the nights are gorgeous. I think you're the kind of guy who needs to work, and let's face it, we're the same age and jobs do not get easier to come by, so I say go for it. Good luck!

Jack post when you get back visiting. Florida is not a bad place to be if you have to move. I was born in N.Y but lived most of my years as a kid in n.J-

Florida is very transient and very sloooooooooooooooooow

Lots of people leaving N.J taxes and the cost of living is outrageous. Leaving your mom/child? tough but you must do what is best for you.

Jeff

I have lived in Palm beach County since 1992
Jack,
i replied on the other thread, but just wanted to echo what has been said already.
It is hard leaving family etc behind but you have to go where the work is,i have had to do it recently and although its not as far as the NJ to Florida move it was still a long way from my family,it does'nt have to be forever, showing you are willing to move where the work is looks great on your CV.
Good Luck Brother,as i said before, you are an intelligent bloke, you will be ok.
