This Made Me Sob

Slow Dance

This is a poem written by a teenager with cancer.

She wants to see how many people get her poem.

It is quite the poem. Please pass it on.

This poem was written by a terminally ill young girl in a New York Hospital .

It! was sent by
a medical doctor - Make sure to read what is in the closing statement AFTER THE POEM.

SLOW DANCE

Have you ever watched kids

On a merry-go-round?

Or listened to the rain

Slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?

Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down.

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last.

Do you run through each day

On the fly?

When you ask How are you?

Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done

!

Do you lie in your bed

With the next hundred chores

Running through your head?

You'd better slow down

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last.

Ever told your child,

We'll do it tomorrow?

And in your haste,

Not see his
sorrow?

Ever lost touch,

Let a good friendship die

Cause you never had time

To call and say,"Hi"

You'd better slow down.

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere

You miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day,

It is like an unopened gift....

Thrown away.

Life is not a race.

Do take it slower

Hear the music

Before the song is over.

FORWARDED E-MAILS ARE TRACKED TO OBTAIN THE TOTAL COUNT.

Dear All:

PLEASE pass this mail on to everyone you know - even to those you don't know! It is the request of a special girl who will soon leave this world due to cancer.

This young girl has 6 months left to live, and as her dying wish, she wanted to send a letter telling everyone to live their life to the fullest, since she never will.

She'll never make it to prom, graduate from high school, or get married and have a family of her own.

By you sending this to as many people as possible, you can give her and her family a little hope, because with every name that this is sent to, The American Cancer Society will donate 3 cents per name to her treatment and recovery plan. One guy sent this to 500 people! So I know that we can at least send it to 5 or 6. It's
not even your money, just your time!

PLEASE PASS ON AS A LAST REQUEST.

How gratefull are you today? enough to want recovery? enough to work harder then you have before? jaxxxxxx
Jacky,

http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/medic...l/slowdance.asp

I'm so sorry. You're a dear person and I hate hoaxes that prey on the good-of-heart. I hope this doesn't dent your faith in mankind, but there are some unprincipled people out there.

www.snopes.com is a good place to check for internet urban legends. I've seen this one before. I'm sorry your emotions were manipulated.

I'm grateful that good people like you exist, Jacky.

Love,
Gina
Hi Gina i kinda guessed it could be a hoax but i loved the poem and it could be someone somwhere, jaxxxxxxxxx
I would have never guessed it to be a hoax. I guess I am just a softy when it comes to things like that. Good poem though. Shantel
Jacky,

I did a quick google because seeing work miscredited pushes all my buttons -- for reasons of pure self-interest.

http://www.davidlweatherford.com/slowdance.html

This appears to be the author, who doesn't mind his work circulating as long as he is cited. The website's a little annoying, but you might enjoy some of his other work, since "Slow Dance" moved you.

The poem is not a hoax, just the way it was used. You're a sweetheart, Jacky.

Love,
Gina
Good morning Gina. You kill me with your computer knowledge. Shantel
Morning Shantel,

I'm a complete tyro at computers compared to my sons. My 13 year-old makes hilarious claymation stop-action videos on his computer in the vein of Mr. Bill.

I've offered him $50 if he'll photoshop a picture of me in the arms of Adrian Brody but unless he can gib it or gun it down digitally, he's not interested. Not even for cold, hard cash.

Cheers,
Gina

The following is a poem written by Judge Roy Moore from Alabama. Judge Moore was sued by the ACLU for displaying the Ten Commandments in his courtroom foyer. He has been stripped of his judgeship and now they are trying to strip his right to practice law in Alabama. The judge's poem sums it up quite well.

America the Beautiful,
or so you used to be.
Land of the Pilgrims' pride;
I'm glad they'll never see.

Babies piled in dumpsters,
Abortion on demand,
Oh, sweet land of liberty;
your house is on the sand.

Our children wander aimlessly
poisoned by cocaine
choosing to indulge their lusts,
when God has said abstain

From sea to shining sea,
our Nation turns away
From the teaching of God's love
and a need to always pray.

We've kept God in our temples,
how callous we have grown.
When earth is but His footstool,
and Heaven is His throne.

We've voted in a government
that's rotting at the core,
Appointing Godless Judges;
who throw reason out the door,

Too soft to place a killer
in a well deserved tomb,
But brave enough to kill a baby
before he leaves the womb

You think that God's not angry,
that our land's a moral slum?
How much longer will He wait
before His judgment comes?

How are we to face our God,
from Whom we cannot hide?
What then is left for us to do,
but stem this evil tide?

If we who are His children,
will humbly turn and pray;
Seek His holy face
and mend our evil way:

Then God will hear from Heaven;
and forgive us of our sins,
He'll heal our sickly land
and those who live within.

But, America the Beautiful,
if you don't - then you will see,
A sad but Holy God
withdraw His hand from Thee.

~~Judge Roy Moore~~

Is this a hoax also? Just wondering.

Thx G jaxxxxxxxxx
LOL Gina, My 12 year old son is the same way. Shantel
Morning Sharon,

I found this on about.com:

In a February 6, 2006 message from Judge Roy Moore's Foundation for Moral Law in Montgomery, Alabama, the organization's secretary Heather Moore wrote: "Part of the poem was anonymous and part was written by the Chief Justice. There are several different versions being circulated [and] this is but one."

So I guess the poem is ghost-written and he is taking credit for the whole thing. Not sure how I feel about that. And I prefer verse that is freer in form, personally.

Let's turn this thread into "Ask Addict Abby," LOL Any other questions? I'm googling madly...

Gina
Dear addict Abby, I have this problem I was hoping you could google it and give me your advice. I don't feel like going to work today what should I do? LMAO Shantel
Sharon, I wanted to add that I express no opinions about the content of that poem. My comment was purely technical. I meant only that in terms of rhyme and metre, the More poem is a little too, How doth the little crocodile.".

Just the English major in me (along with the inner Buddha, the inner lesbian, and the thin girl) trying to get out. LOL

Shantell, Still googling
I have problems with that aspect of the poem also. Plus I have problems with some of the content. I firmly believe in God but don't believe in anything including God, being pushed on anyone. I don't believe in the death penalty but then I've never had a family member murdered so my opinion might change if that happened. I also believe that a woman has control over her body and others should not dictate any decisions she makes about it.

Morning Gina. Hope your day is good.

Sharon
JAXS Thank you & I will pass that on ...how touching & how it makes me realize just how lucky I am to have 2 healthy daughters.
Thank you for sharing this
love mols
Hey molls the stoy behind the poem is a hoax but as separates it sure makes you think. jaxxx
