A very newcomer to a group meeting just out of rehab clinic for the second time said, "Just how do you keep from relapsing?"
There were 30 different suggestions, ESH, and metaphores. The one that struck me the most? If you want to relapse, you will. You have to want sobriety more, simple as that, because at that point you might be teachable. "Willing to go to any length." It's simple, really. I spent years trying everything but the simplest thing.
Thought provoking post Skg. I never got sober until I made that the priority. I never was serious about it and when I did "attempt" it I was never doing it for myself. Once I admitted to myself that I could never drink again I was able to get on with it so to speak. For me that is what worked. So far so good but I work at it.
