Creditors
Most alcoholics owe money. We do not dodge our creditors.
Telling them what we are trying to do,
we make no bones about our drinking;
they usually know it anyway, whether we think so or not.
Nor are we afraid of disclosing our alcoholism
on the theory it may cause financial harm.
Approached in this way, the most ruthless creditor
will sometimes surprise us.

Once we clear a hurdle, it doesn't seem so high.
I can relate to this one so much.
When I first came in this time it seemed like I
owed everyone. I got shut off notices all the time.
I was afraid to answer the door. In fact my electric
was shut off. I never thought I would get out of debt.
Seemed never ending. Took things one thing at a time
and slowly paid them. Today I dont have to worry about that
anymore. Now dont get me wrong I still owe loads of money but
at least my utilities are paid and there is food on the table. It does
get better.

Gina, I can relate to this one too...went through a lot of $$ for drugs and alcohol. While using bought a brand new car, had some Attorney fees from the divorce. Actually was in pretty good shape after we sold the house, due to a court order, and I was able to pay off all the debt, however in my first year of sobriety I switched addictions: shopping! I have credit card debt, a car payment and helping my oldest daughter with some extra stuff while she is in college, but it all seems to work out if I just stay in today. It is manageable today..at the end of my run I use to get bills in the mail and throw them in a closet without even opening them! My electricity got turned off one time too! Thanks for sharing. Good thing we don't choose to live like that today!
