Hi new here trying to quit all kinds of pain pills such as percs 20 40 80 . Average I take al least 4 80's a day. Tried to cut down and now went cold turkey but cant sleep. Trying to take teynol 1 and valum to compensate but I know I just substitute another pill for another. I have a hard time sleeping and feel so depressed and unmotivated. Just want to quit this habit. I have not taken any pain killers for two days but going crazy with the withdraws any suggestions would be great?
Hi! Maybe you should try to take some vitamins (if your not already taking them) At night sometimes milk will help you get sleepy. For the pain and depression light some candles run a hot bath and with some soft music and just try to think about your life when this chapter is over. Focus on the light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi Buggin --
Just read your post -- the Board has been down. Not sure if you're still going c/t, but if so, you might try Immodium A-D for the runs, Motrin for pain, TheraFlu for the flu-like symptoms, lots of water, chamomille tea at night, warm baths with Epsom Salts, long walks for the restless leg syndrome......sleep will come. Hang in, andlet us know how you're doing. M.

Hi Buggin;
This forum is a great place to come for support and advice, but there's nothing like face-to-face (IMO). Have you consider NA meetings?
Hang in there,
Jim

Hi me again just wanted to say still going c/t and want to thank marina, none4me, and jr1954 for all the advice. I have tried some of your suggestions already and will try more of them. Feel like s--t right now what a crazy habbit to get into I can remember when life was so much easier without my habit. If anybody else thinks that this is a fun habit to get by with life think again and listen to what people say about how the road to recovery is. Hey like the old tv add would say" just say no to drugs". Thanks again to all the help and I will keep you updated.
Hey buggin',
So this is Day 4 off the pain pills? Congratulations -- You're on the other side of the worst of the physical w/d! I'd give some serious thought to flushing the remainder of your pills (valium, etc.) pretty soon, because like you say, it's too damn easy to start substituting...... Hang in, M.

hey today was a really crapy day if you know what I mean haven't really been eating solid food for two days but going to start now. I can already feel a difference in my body. Went back to work today but only stayed a couple of hours. My legs are feeling better a bit now and it is great. I think this is going to be the time i quit for good I can finially remember how life was without the help of pills. I think the key to recovery is having the time to just sit around inside and lose contact with everyone for a while so there is no influence. Also a group of people like you are a great help with your ideas. I tried one other thing different along with the imodium and that was taking metamucil before bed to try to get regular and it seems to be working. Thanks again everybody talk soon.
Hang in there....I am on day four with no valium, xanax, clon,....sub...nothing.
The doctor gave me some phenergan tabs for nausea. They work ... but for me the bad part is not feeling right in my head. I can't talk to anyone, I am at work during this and it sucks. I go home at lunchtime and take a nap. I am not eating very good...no energy to go to the store...do laundry, clean the house...etc., etc. TOTALLY depressed. I hope for all of us in these "early days" of discomfor that they go quickly. I can't imagine feeling like this for more than 1 week. I can't cope.

Hi Kat,
look its no use pretending that these awful feelings will leave in a hurry,each day does get better,but the fatigue and a few other things are going to last a bit longer then a week,dont give in after a week just because its not getting better for you as quickly as you wanted,be strong and soon you will notice some real changes,someone told me that the fatigue hangs around about a month for every year you have used,anyway I just wanted to say its a journey and you just have to ride it out if you want your life back,most of the time I feel like Im on a drug of sorts,Im not,Im absolutely clean,but the feelings Im getting sometimes makes me think Im on an acid trip,its weird as but in a way its a lovely feeling.
I hope you can do this,please be strong and remember what using has been like for you and where it has taken you,
ChadO.

Well things are really starting to feel better for me right now my bowl movements seem to be getting better and the flu like symptoms are gone. I was such a big user of pain pills for about two years starting with perks and moving up to 20's then 40's then 80's. Up to a few weeks ago I would take anyware from 4 80's to about 5 80's and some perks. I just decided it was not worth it any more and stoped cold turkey. This has been the hardest week in my life but the suffering is going to be well worth it. I just wanted to say to everyone stay strong and pretend you just have a really bad case of the flu and treat it the same way. Drink fluids take vitiamns teas, and natural suplements to help you get energy or sleep. Just hang in there trust me you will feel like s*** but the reward of you life will come in time. I can't thank everyone on this board eneough for there suggestions and experiences it has really helped. If you need help just read through all the postings and you will get some great ideas and support from everyone. I DID AND IT WORKS.
