I dont know about smart, but Al Anon and Nar Anon meetings saved me. I know I must seem like a get paid to "advertise" but if you want to understand addiction and how to live with addicts there is no better way in my view.
Nar Anon meetings are re: addiction, but there aren't as many meetings around as Al Anon, so I use both.
