Some vitamins and suplements to help through post detox and the dreaded depression and mood shifts after the 3 day withdrawls:

This is what I used and others may have some more suggestions.David[Bikeman] has some good knowledge of this also.

The most important thing to remember is time and patience is crucial because none of these are quick fixes.Combined with a strong spiritual adjunct, this can shorten the time about 80%.

1.Start exercising as soon as you can.You don't have to be a triathelete either.Walking a half mile in the beginning is a start.

2.When waking up on an empty stomach take 2 Broad specrtum Amino-Acids.A good brand is Amino 2222 Softgels.

2.5 5HTP........a very effective mood elevator

3.Vitamin B-6

4.L-Tyrosine

5.DL=Tryptophan

After 30-40 minutes eat a good breakfast.an idea: Scrambled eggs, oatmeal and a half grapefruit.I put blueberries and vanilla yogurt in my oatmeal. The next day mix it up a bit so you don't get bored.Try whole wheat toast with fruit spread instead of oatmeal or granola.

6.Eat a good multi vitamin with Milk Thistle.

7.When you are ready to up your exercise levels or go to a gym,eat a couple more Amino's.

You don't have to spend a fortunate on vitamins either.Go to Pilgrim Pride.org.They have the best prices. You don't have to go to GNC or Whole Foods to buy supplements.

I have found these supplements gave me more energy and improved my mood 100%.I had more energy at the gym and acuallty started feeling better about the second week.

You can substitute the 5HTP with SAM-e,but that is very expensive.

Drink tons of water and I've even quit drinking coffee.I switched to green teas and occassionally will have black tea.Lots of anti-oxidants in both of these.

Good Luck
Great advice as always Tim.

I just wanted to say that 1/2 mile walk may seem extreme when you can't get out of bed or off the couch. I would stress that even the act of getting showered, dressed and drying your hair can be major. I remember being so proud that I actually drove to the library and returned a book.

Remember that you are sick and trying to get well. Don't beat yourself up if you do alot of laying around. Keep telling yourself to make it through the day and that tomorrow will be better. Be patient with yourself! It will get better.
The only thing I disagree with is taking anything on an empty stomach. Pills messed up my stomach pretty good and I can't take ANYTHING on an empty stomach without getting nauseous. But that's me. I've had ulcers since I was 21. On the other hand I could take a hundred fun pills on an empty stomach and didn't give a crap about what it did to me. hehe I was a "little" crazy then.
Amino's on an empty stomach shouldnt iritate it but if it does, eat a piece of toast or something. They work better on an empty stomach.Vitamins should never be taken on an empty stomach.B-6 is relatively mild but everyone's different.

I hear you about the pills.I wouldn't think twice about gobbling down a bunch on an empty stomach.
THANK YOU

THANK YOU!!!!

Great information here!!!! This information is so helpful and hearing all of your different experiences/feedback is great!! I am new here and your kindness and replies mean so much to me! My biggest fear is since I am tapering and taking a lot less I am soooo tired and still have muscle aches and withdrawal symptoms!! My goal is to get to the store and stock up on everything I will need before I am home bound and bed ridden!!

About 2 years ago I bought a book that gave me advice on a bunch of supplements to take and I will tell you I spent over $300.00 at the vitamin shop and was taking about 50+ vitamins per day!! I went from 4 Norco's to 2 but guess what? After 3 days of this my body said this is way too much and I got soooo sick!!!! I want to take all of the necessary steps to prep for this battle without going overboard!

For the last couple of days I have started drinking hot tea, taking baths, reading, etc. I also took Cowgirls advice on a previous thread and decided if I can't sleep I am not gonna lay there I am going to get up and move around a bit. Also, my heart has felt like it's going to jump out of my chest....All I know to do is take deep breathes...Any other suggestions with that??

Thanks Tim for getting this thread going! I will keep you guys posted on my journey to get my life back!!

Hugs,

I am Soulsearching
Great info Tim! I've been looking for something like this- Thanks!
The above mentioned shouldn't cost you more than 50-$75.Go to puritanspride.org.They have really good specials.During withdrawls you will have a tendency to have high blood pressure.Deep breathing in a quite room for at least 5 minutes will help with that.Pray too.

Detoxing off opiates is not life threatning. You will experience some mild panic attacks but deep breathing and even self affirmations are quite effective.I would try any and every holistic techinique before resorting to medications. The only thing a doctor will do is prescibe an anti-anxiety medication or Clonidine and by then you will be through the worst of it.
I took highlands restless legs tablets like candy. I took a sleeping pill called legatrin pm which is prob not better then any other sleeping aid but it said LEG in it and mine were hurting. I drank lots of water and tried to stay away from everyone that knew how to talk. Lots of hot long showers with a candle lit and the lights out just enough light to see it flicker in the shower. It was relaxing for me. When the worst was over I rearranged my bed and furniture to trick my mind that it was a new time and things were different. :) I also listen to alot of music it seems to help. Eat like you are sick nothing heavy soups stuff like that. Herbs and stuff did nothing for me. Just my 2 pennies.
Sorry its hylands restless leg pill they have it at walgreens.
