today I will be strong. I will be strong for my husband ,my children,my family and my friends but most of all I will be strong for ME. We deserve better than to be beaten and defeated by the demon of alochol. He can be on our back but we dont have to let him into our head where he can destroy our minds and our lives. I have been only sober for 4 days first time in so long I dont know when. But I can remember yesterday and what day it was and what the weather was like and what I did and said. What normal people take for granted I am just beginning to know. God bless you all and in numbers there is strength, bear it in mind and we will win we will..
4 days is huge Pirate - it really is. Gosh I can remember when I couldn't even imagine 1 day without - and now I know (cause I've done it) that I can go weeks without - and as time passes it will be longer and longer and one day being sober will be just part of our lives.
Don't look too far ahead though just get through today.
What kind of sobriety plan are you putting in place? Rehab, AA, therapy, church?
You are doing great by the way - be proud of yourself. Go treat yourself to something nice.
Idg.

Welcome to the board Pirate! My name is Valarie. I have been sober since 9/5/05. I pop on here from time to time but I can tell you that early in my sobriety these wonderful people on here were my God Send!! Never any judgment. Only support and understanding.
I never went to treatment or any sort of program to get and stay sober. Many trips to the ER and hospitalizations with pancreatitus finally opened my eyes. I will say that many people here follow the principles of AA and it seems to be a great avenue for recovery. Whatever you decide is up to you. There is no right way to stay sober. I think they say something like that in AA. LOL
Alot of the principles they use I have absorbed through osmosis on this site. Be open and honest with yourself and you will get through it. When you feel out of control and too much in your own head....hop on here and start a thread. There is so much love and support here you will be shocked by it. I certainly was.
Good luck in your journey. Idgie is correct in saying don't look too far ahead. If you do that it seems too daunting. Take it minute by minute if you have to and before you know it you will have lots of time strung together! Four days is huge! Congrats and keep up the good work. Half the battle is putting down the bottle. You did that already! Good job!
