My son's drug counselor suggested he think about getting a prescription for topamax to help with the cravings for pot and alchohol. I did some research and found they use it for alchohol cravings in some programs. Anyone ever had any experience with it? Sounds pretty interesting and she told him that they had had some success using it for cravings.
i was on topamax for about 7 months for pain. please be very careful and research this drug fully. it has a lot of side affecst. the best was that i lost about 80 pounds... yeah, that i loved. i also didn't have any migraines during that time. another yeah.
but, i couldn't stand the tingle and numbness in my hands and feet. cranberry juice helped, but not enough. also, i began to lose my hair. in huge clumps, on a daily basis.
i tried to stay on a lower dose, just to avoid the migraines, and keep some of the weight off, i am obese, i just couldn't stand the way my hands and feet were, or the hair thing.
check it out online. there are multiple other side affects, i was very frightend to try topamax from what i read, but i couldn't stand the pain i was in, so i gave it a shot. i wish i hadn't.

I have been doing research and have found stuff about using it to kill the cravings. It has been tested on alcoholics, but supposedly might work for drugs, eating, and possibly gambling. This is one of the articles I found:

What amount of the drug were you taking? I think that you start at a low dose and work up. It is unfortunate to hear it had those side effects on you. I think that it may be used short term for cravings but I'm really not sure
