I think through the years less people(kids) are going out and getting wasted drunk and driving. I could be wrong, but it seems that way.
Anyway,I have my 19 year old son living with me. . The drinking age is 21. He is a good kid, never a problem. He asked me if a few (3) of his friends could come over NewYears EVe and split a case of beer.
Part of me wants to tell him -ok, because Ill know where he is,and he ASKED instead of sneaking it in the house and into his room.
Ill know where he is and he,ll be save.
BUT- I could get in huge trouble if 1 of these kids got DWI on thier way home or God forbid had a crash.
If i call their parents, and ask them if they know thier kids will be drinking and ask if them if thier kids could stay at my home ,is that right??
or
should I forbid him from having friends over at all. He is 19 ,so thier is only so much I have control over.
whadda think??little help!

JACK are you crazy Dude?
NO NO NO--You can be liable and go to jail.
I knowits your son BUT here is a story played out daily .
Parents let the kidsdrink figuring its safe that they know whats up.
Well what happens if your son friend took a hit of EX or benz or oxy or anything and O.D
You going to Jail and will be fined 250,000 at least herein florida that is the # I think.
JACK give your son a 20 and tell him to take a cab home. Let him go to a bar.

Jack,
I think you would be taking too much of a risk, you could lose everything including your son or one of his friends.
He will be 21 soon enough, and he already knows you are a cool dad. Just play it safe for a couple of more years.

Upon further review - I dont know what I was thinking-
Sometimes I try to hard to make up for all the neglect he went thru- me using thru his childhood- growing up without a mom. etc....
Its hard to be the parent that always seems like the bad guy. Im sure he,ll get over it though.
Just ,Ill have to hear " Its ok for you to drink Mdone everyday, but I cant even have a few beers 1 day a year.
He,ll just blow off some steam- but he is bright enough and respectful enough to get the consquences.
Ohhhh being a parent is a wonderful job.My dad used to tell me" Wait till your a parent" -
Thanks for the realitiy check,folks- These kids can be convincing and manipulitive-
I wonder where that comes from??-hmmm
Happy New Year
Jack
The idea about letting him take his scene out of here is just something Ill have to live with a worry about- the taxi cab home is a good idea.

Again I want to thank you guys for helping a helpless parent. I just couldnt allow my son or his 19 year old buddies over the house ,so in the end they are going to someone elses home.
He,ll be calling me at midnight for happy new year wishes and will be staying over until tomarrow. I told him if he needs to take a cab, dont even hesitate.
He,s a good kid ,completely understands the deal,I just hope he takes it easy.
I trust him,as he has NEVER given me any reason not too.
Hell ,when I think of the sh** I did at his age it gives me chills.
My mom reminds me every now and then.
God help all the parents and thier kids make the right decisions tonight.

Okay, here's my opinion...I have let my kids drink (he is 19), but what I have done is take everyone's car keys and not let them go ANYWHERE. They spend the night at my house.
I'm sure that I will be labled as "bad parent", but my feelings are that they are going to do it anyway and I'd much rather have some control over it.
Incidently, my son is playing a gig tonight at a bar, though he is not of legal buying age, I know darn well that he will get a hold of alcohol, I'd much rather he stayed home, but there's nothing I can do but pray that they have a designated driver and don't get into an accident.

No, I am talking about him and his friends.
As long as I have their car keys, I am okay with them drinking...
Like I said, y'all will probably hang me for this one, but they WILL do it anyway.
PS, I DO monitor the amount they are drinking.
