Have also been using some alcohol not my doc, i still have not slept, cannot lay still in the bed, chills, or hot spells, so i am having some withdrawels but they are manageable, is using ultram for a few days to detox ok? or will it be bed again when they are gone. Any advice would be appreciated
Peksy,
If it were me I'd dump'em. Ultram is a non-narcotic that they are trying to get re-classified as a narcotic. It is addictive and will give a simular effect as an opoiate when taken in high doses. I abused ultram and took a seizure a couple years ago. Yes I'd say your just prolonging it by keeping it in your system. This of course is my opinion, I'm not a doctor. But I'd say the three or four days your thinking about using it, if you just stop, you'll be past the worst of it by then.
I'll say a prayer for you, welcome to the board and good luck.

ULTRAM IS NOT A CNS DEPRESSANT OR A BENZODIAZEPINE, WHICH IS USED FOR DETOX MEASURES, SO PERSONALLY I DON'T THINK THEY ARE MUCH USEFUL FOR WITHDRAWAL. CHUCK 'EM AND GET HELP.
WHY IS IT WHEN WE FINALLY REALIZE WE HAVE A FATAL ILLNESS LIKE ADDICTION, WE WON'T GET HELP?

Hi again,
The booze isn't helping any either. I'd say you'll end up drinking more and more
as time goes by. I'd quit it all. I'm an alcoholic and an addict, A.A. is what works for me but I do agree with N.A. when they say, a drug is a drug.speaking for myself, If it's mind altering, it's a problem.

Hi 12 steps,
The sad thing about our disease is people that don't understand it's a disease think it's just a matter of willpower.

Just wanted to say thank because in the span of like 15 minutes i have already had 4 replies. it does seem like the ultram helps keep it managable and with 2 kids and a hubby on 4-12 shift but i dont want to have to start over again. also you are right about the alcohol im trying to tell myself its to get through withdrawls, but who am i kidding believe it or not im a kinda smart woman and i am also an addict and my quest is to feel numb so it will become a problem. 5 years ago my best friend, my therapist, also my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer i was the only one to take care of her she died at home with me and my 2little boys there its been 3 years almost and ive not recovered and ive made a mess of things the shame sometimes is overwhelming but im starting with a councelor, hopefully this is the road to recovery. thanks for listening, julie
Julie,
Good luck and God bless. Let us know how your doing, take care..........Bob

Psky,
I am on day 4...I was taking 10+ Norcos a day (10/325's)....I feel like absolute crap....day 2-3 was the absolute worst. Nausea, on the toilet all day, fatigue, but could not sleep all night. Restless legs really bad at night. Day 3 I sweat really bad during the night. Day 3 I actually did sleep - had weird dreams. Now I think I am entering the mental part and I am scared and depressed. My crutch is gone....I have a fulltime job and am raising 2 children. My husband does not know.
Ultram never did much for me...I was forced to go off....ran out of ways to get my meds.
Keep strong. Remember - - the first week is the WORST. If you work, take a few days off, you will not want to see anyone. But after that you have to FORCE yourself to go outside...eat....exercise....interact with people. It's really really hard but it's part of healing.
Take care.

Hi Kerry, I once used ultram. I took it to ward off w/d from lorcets. It does work for that. However, it's worse to w/d off of than they are. In my humble opinion anyway. I think ultram is a nasty, sneaky little pill. (well, they all are of course). How low is a low dose? If it's really low the w/d might not be much at all. I wouldn't normally recommend tapering to anyone. I tried it and it didn't work for me. However, when I got off ultram, (more than once, even though it's not my doc) I always tried at the very end to space it out and take less and less until they were gone. Not everyone would agree with me on that. Ultram is just particularly unpleasant to w/d from and if you could taper sort of quickly you'd make it easier on yourself. The way I did it was..take 3 a day for two days, the 2 a day for two days, then 1 for two days. After that then stop.W/d under those circumstances wasn't too unpleasant. If you're taking less than three a day already, you shouldn't have to worry too much. All people are different though, and I'm no doctor, I can only tell you how it was for me. Good luck, much love, Kat
Thanks kat...I only take around 4 now. I am such a wimp when it comes to withdrawls, and am not good at tapering. I am getting sick of it..
Thank you. What symptoms did you have and how long did it last? I know very well what norco withdrawls feel like. I have been taking it for about 3 months now..
And to the other poster who is a mommy, I am in the same boat. I went through the vicoden hell. I have babies too, a full time job...it isn't easy, but we don't have a choice.
Please tough it out...it will get better, but slowly...just hang in there and go find some meetings in your area. You don't have to do this alone.
Kerry

Hi Kerry, don't feel bad, almost everybody is bad at tapering. The only thing I was ever able to taper was ultram. (and that was mostly out of fear, lol). Anyway, taking four isn't so bad. If you c/t my guess is it won't be any more than the usual stomach problems etc.. It shouldn't last more than a few days. One of the scary things about ultram is how quickly you become immune to it. Before you realize it, you could be taking ten or fifteen in a day. That's when it gets ugly to come off of. You might be surprised though, considering your amount, to find it's not too difficult. I hope you can just grit your teeth and do it. I hate to see anyone fool around with ultram. Speaking from personal experience, you might find yourself a month from now, having greatly increased what you are taking. I would have never believed that if I hadn't learned it for myself. Save yourself alot of misery and just flush them. Good luck! (I know it's easier said than done, lol) Much love, Kat
I was totally immuned to Ultram. It didn't do anything to me. Thinking about it, the past 6 months I was on the Norco, it didn't do anything either except no make the withdrawals come on. I am now realizing how many mothers out there are on these medications. It makes you cope....makes it easier to get things done....be supermom!
I can't even face anyone right now. Day 5 of withdrawal is horrible. I am craving really bad. Sitting here at work barely existing. Help./
