Watching A Withdrawl

has anyone ever watched as a loved one suffer from withdraw?

My father is currently in the middle of it this week. It's so harsh to watch, I too was where he was (months ago) but never thought of how it looked to someone on the outside. So dark...so concern for him. Watching it happen to someone you love is bitter sweet. He's in recovery..which will soon bring health and happiness back to his life.... but he's suffering a fight to get to that point, as we all do.

Has anyone here saw someone they loved in a situation like this? How did it make you feel?
I watched myself go through it! You may want to post on the Familiy/Friends board, there are some terrific people over there who have been right where you are or possibly going through it right now too.
Hi Casseydrew. Yes I have seen my daughter go through withdrawal from prescription drugs. It was terrible. I felt so helpless and she was so sick. She had the sweats, the shakes, the nightmares of bugs crawling out of her skin and the stomach disturbances (if you know what I mean). she was so wet from the sweats that she looked like she just got out of water and so purple under the eyes.( I don't like to think about it.) She has been in reab since mid December but is still having a hard time of it.I went through alcohol withdrawal myself in January. Some are worse than others and it depends on how long the addiction has been I guess. For me I had the shakes and nausea and and bad dreams and cravings so bad I could have chewed my arms off. My nephew who is alocholic however he had withdrawal a lot worse. he had to be hospitalized for 30 days.He had convulsions and the whole bit.(he has been sober now for 6 years) I don't know how bad your dad's withdrawal is but there is nothing easy about whatever he's experiencing.Just tell yourself this too will pass.Just be there for him and tell him you love him and are supporting him and that you understand. I wish him and you Good luck and be strong. People really do care especially on this site as I have come to know. God bless and be safe
