Ways Family Members Can Help

I just joined this group. I am in recovery (2 years) but recently found out my partner started using again. Thank you for this post. It has really helped me turn my initial anger and frustration into realistic thoughts and actions. Reading these messages has been the ONLY things that has helped relax my anxiety and worry over what the future holds. I am only in control of me. There is nothing I can say or do to help her. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

So true, especially not supporting or 'rescuing' the addict. The addict must suffer the consequences of their actions to learn. They chose that life now let them pay for it, for everything. Time and money spent on their addiction could be spent on something else.

Doing small or seeming non related favor gives the addict time and money for their addiction. If not enabling works right it could eventually force the addict to make a choice which might have to come from a miserable status in life which many call rock bottom. The addict must be allowed to hit rock bottom. The addict must actually want recovery for themselves and not a court or favor to someone.
