What If I Go To The Hospital

what happens if i got to the hospital without health insurance and tell them im going thru opiate withdrawal and i want them to help me, can they put me on anything to feel better and just bill me?
Even if they did treat you, you'd only get temporary help from an ER but most likely they won't give you anything. They could bill you but it would be a lot more expensive than a doctor visit and you wouldn't get the long term help you need. I don't have insurance either but I found a doctor who will work with me on payments. It's expensive as hell but I've got to do it. Why don't you try to get by on the Sub and check with the doc who prescribed the Sub for you. They might work out a payment plan.
More than likely, they will think that you don't have any cash to feel better & went to them to get straight.
The odds of them giving you opiates ,then letting you go - -with or w/o insurance is 1000 to 1.
The odds of them giving you opiates & admitting you without insurance or medicaid is about them same.

They probably will make you wait a few hours -while they take care of the "important" issues that come in> when they finally get to you they,ll take your vitals> then sent you on your way with a lecture & some literature on how ,when, and where to get clean.

best of luck.

Even if you have good intentions, can you imagine every sick addict who cant score, walking in to a hospital looking for something to get straight without a dime or insurance- - then telling them "dont worry, just send me the bill"
Call me cynical, but I dont think thats gonna happen.

j, ya poor thing.

Ditto on Callie and Jack.

I'm thinkin then ya in the States?

No way at an ER............you'll be jumping out your skin only to be shooshed....just my opinion.......like Jack said they ain't gonna help ya out...maybe some kind hearted liason in there, but that wait and all.......naw!

You got a phone? Call round like see who has welfare of people ya know.......I'm pretty sure with that I mean health insurance through that they have to go to specific detox/rehabs..........I'd try that........just walk in and maybe they can get ya on............and get ya in......hope ya come back and tell us what State............not to be newsie, but to help.........people on another part of this board know alot about the system and all.

Hope ya are making it, j.........don't give up.

Are you in the usa? if so..... your not gonna get help thru a ER. You can try calling some methadone clinics. Most m-done clinics in the USA are self pay many are offering subs now also which is the best option. I paid $12.00 DAY for my methadone everyone i know who is on m-done paid out of pocket. The very 1st time i got dope sick "1st 2 months in my addiction" i went to the ER they gave me "Clonidine" only a blood presure med it made my blood presure to low i about fainted. They put me on a stupid 3 day mental health hold so i went thru a HARD withdraw held against my will at the hospital on the pshy floor. THE ER in the USA won't give m-done or subs if you come in in withdraws they watch your blood presure let you sweat it out tell you coping things like hot baths.
Hey Zerogirl...
Never posted to you before but I saw your post to J

You said that many methadone clinics are offering Sub too. You can't just go to the clinic and they hand you a Sub, right? I'm assuming you have to have a work-up and all that first. Can you be more specific about the process for getting Sub through a methidone clinic, or do you know?

See Ya!

Callie: i went to "EITC" East Indiana Treatment Center, when i started may05 they only had methadonme. By september 05 they started to offer subs they were $15 a day vs. $12 for m-done. Yes it did work as walk in. They ONLY took new people at like 5am you had to be in active withdarws with a + drug screen you saw a doctor there you paid for that also. To be seen and dosed it cost "i belive something like 62.00 dollars" 12 dollars for the dose the rest was for the drug test blood draws and to see the doc. Yes it was exactly the same if you were getting subs or m-done. M-done and the subs had to be aproved by the doc who was seeing you at the clinic. I live in Ohio the m-done clinic here had a 4 month waiting list and it cost more to be seen 75.00 first visit + the daily dose cost was 15$ for m-done. I drove over a hour away to get into EITC without ANY wait. EVERY states m-done clinics are ran diffrent. With little effort a lot of driving i found one that offers subs and m-done. If you are anywhere near Indiana give them a call. EITC treats so many out of state addicts they have easier / lax take home rules. After 5 months i was only having to go twice a week to pick up and drug test.

there is no clinic where they will just hand ya subs or m-done without seeing a doctor and being looked over if my other post sounded that way it was by mistake no m-done clinic just hands out ANY meds. You are checked gave a number and a locked bag i.d'ed every visit .

In Ohio, a client has to be in a treatment program for 90 days to be considered for a two-day, take-home dose. After two years, a client may be eligible for a three-day take-home.

In Kentucky, 90 days of "clean urine'' and program participation may earn a client a one-day take-home. It takes 180 days to earn the right to take home a two-day dosage.

In Indiana, a client can get a two-day supply to go the first day he signs up, according to EITC's rules. After 91 days, a client can take home three doses. After one year, a client can take home 14 days of doses. The assumption is the client won't drink up that supply in less than 14 days.
Hoping j got some help or comes back to let us know how they are.
