My husband is an addict and today his dr. put him on kadain they sound very very strong should i be worried?????? He was on oxycodone 10 times a day from that went too oxycontin 40 mg. 6 times a day and now he is on kadain and he seems to get very high from this drug, any advise
kadian is a morphine sulphate it comes in different strengths though. i think it comes in 10, 30, 40, 50 100 mg pills. which one is he on. if it is small yellow capsules it is the 10 mg i think it is a very potent drug. it is time released and won' t allow but so much at a time so overdose is kinda impossible unless they are crushed in someway then overdose can happen. it allows all the med. to get in you at one time.

He is on 100mg twice aday because he has a high tolerence to opiates , he did only do 1 at first but he is booting it.i am scared because ive seen him high before but he is REALLY high on theese.
yea 100 mg of morphine at once is alot, however it is time released if you don't crush it or chew it or snort it or anything like that. is he just swollowing them or is he crushing them and doing it other way. when you say booting it i hope you just mean he is uping his dosage and not doing them otherways

by booting i dont mean upping the dose you know what i mean , and i am scared hes gonna drop .he dont ever wanna hear what i have to say,he thinks he is invincible and oding cant happen to him although he has before he says it was because he was drinking at the time.
yea, thats what i thought you meant. that is very dangerous he is getting 100 mgs at once and that is considered a lethal dose. i went to the hospital in 2000 and my appendix ruptured they gave me 50 mg 25 iv and 25 in my rear that was all i could stand and i have been on opiate along time at that time so watch him if his breathing gets real shallow and he is out call 911 that can be a lethal dose sorry to hear about him. maybe something will click soon. i will pray for him in a real way. it think he is in real danger

Well thank you for you concern my mother passed away 1 year ago on the 14th and she had brain cancer and the hospital gave her a shot of morphine and it killed her instantly thats why i am scared for him because my mother was a fairly large woman and i know the dose has alot to do with your body weight and that is why i am so scared because i know 1st hand what morphine can do to someone.i just dont know what to say to him because like i said he thinks it cant happen to him.

I had surgery in 1998 and I remember the shot of morphine knocked me out... gave me a really bad headache, but made me REALLY out of it.
In April, when I had meningitis, they gave me 3 shots of morphine within a couple of hours (along with two shots of stadol) and it didn't do ANYTHING (I had been taking hydrocodone daily for almost two years, so I had a high tolerance). Finally, they had to give me Demerol.
What your friend/husband is taking is a VERY high dose to take all at once. I have known other people to take 100mg of hydrocodone (10 Lortabs at a time) and be okay, but it's always like playing Russian Roulette.... especially if he is drinking on them.... A book that I'm reading about painkillers states that a lot of these drugs are hard to overdose on on their own, but when mixed with alcohol or other depressants, they can be fatal.
Since I do not know anything about the drug that he is on, all I can do is offer my support and prayers.... Good luck with this
