How come skg is not around this week? I miss his ESH.
Took a couple days to reflect on the purpose of ARG in my life, in my recovery, stuff like that. Just making sure I'm doing things for the right reasons is all.
Hi Shane,
You are a such a gift to my recovery and to a lot of others on here too that I don't see how your motives could be anything but for the right reasons...I have watched you embrace the program, stay open minded and take suggestions and grow into a spiritual being that I am proud to call my friend. God speaks through you to give me answers at times and for that I am eternally grateful. When you worked as the channel for Lacey & I to communicate when she was at a crisis point, I saw how selfless you are. I have watched Ruth grow so much and I am grateful you were there for her.
I am forever grateful to ARG as it was the first week of February in 2005 and I was in day 4 from vicodin withdrawl and thought I was dying when I typed in "vicodin withdrawl" and found this site. I was a lurker and read, and read, and read and saw I was not terminally unique and I gained courage & strength to get through the CT w/d's and then played on the merry go round for quite awhile, getting clean time only to relapse when I finally joined this fellowship. After another attempt, and yet another failure at staying clean, I finally after 1 1/2 of reading, reached out my hand and asked a gal who had what I wanted, I adored her and she walked the walk. God put her in my life for a purpose and through her, I found the courage to walk back into the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous and recovery. She was so instrumental in my first 60 days and all she did was carry the message, freely gave what was given to her. All she asked of me is to do the same, freely give what was given to me and that is why I still keep coming back here. I am clean & sober today by the grace of God and Teresa working a 12step program the way the book outlines.....Trust God, clean house & help others.
There are times when reaching out to newcomers and others, where my feelings are hurt, newcomers come and go, sometimes very quickly but today I am grateful I actually have those feelings for my fellows and all I was asked was to carry the message and some of them actually stick around, most don't but as I put my head on my pillow, I can sleep okay knowing I was doing God's will, not my own and I have another day clean & sober.
Stick around Shane...I, for one, value and need your ESH...
Love ya,
Stacey

I'll second that Stacey, but I do want to add that I admire you Skg for taking the action of following up on any questions you have about motives. I know my conscious intentions have usally been positive and loving, but then one of the ways my dis-ease manifests itself is as what people call co-dependency, and some of my unconscious motives were fear-based and a lot less shining than the ones I was aware of. I need to keep in touch with my best self and my HP to be as sure as I can about that sort of stuff. Good for you.

well skg I am glad you are here. Like stacey said how can it be for the wrong reasons when you help so many. You have been a tremendous inspiration for me. You are the one that made me want what AA has to offer. Please never underestimate the good that you do here on this board. You touch lives, you bring the message of AA and you walk the walk to prove that it does work. I missed you the couple of days you weren't around I truly did because you are part of my recovery whether you know it or not.(well guess you do now lol)
Well, now I'm blushing... Thanks, y'all. I'm alcoholic. I have to CONSTANTLY check my motives anymore.

HI Skg,
I hope your insight proved beneficial. You bring a huge amount to this board, more than you realise I would imagine. I have the utmost respect for you and your journey; and the way you helped me and dealt with my meltdown in such a matter of fact and human way was brilliant. I will love you forever you know!!
