Not to be controversial.....I just wrote on the Families Board something that has bothered me....months ago someone on here....sweet girl....said wow they're calling us their addicts.
I'm sorry.......nobody ever called me thir addict......we're human beings with good hearts....children, wives, cousins...musicians, bowlers, nurses, waitresses, friends, daughters, sons......I mean come on....what is with that.
I know our families never called us this....I know mine didn't....no I was a sister who screwed up...a friend outta her mind.....I was still in essence ME....does this bother anyone else.....don't we like animals, and are kind to kids?
I mean people in relationships....enablers some....get out of it....I think we want to hurt ourselves, and never purposely hurt people....not on purpose...like well I'm a filthy junkie so let me hurt fred, or carole today.....Nooooo.....O.K. so am I a freak....that bothers me, and I got mad respect for the people who post on the Families/Relationships......but I'm not anyones recovering addict.
I'm me.
This kills me and got me in a lot of hot water there as I would call people out on how they referred to those they loved fighting addiction...
I am angered each and everytime I see this.....
It is that sickness I wrote to you about, over there. The other side can and is at times much sicker than this one....
Don't much like the sides either as I learn way to much from you guys who have fought hard to beat what chained you......

I got it Tina...can I be YOUR addict....it bothered me alot, but I never mentioned it before....I react...not good....especially when someone's mate says "Oh yeah they did it on purpose"....I never hurt a flea let alone people I care about

Hope you are well!..... I 'think' when it is said "our addict" i 'think' it is bcoz people don't want to keep saying my husband, my daughter, my wife etc. When i read your post i can really see how that would P**S you off! It really does sound horrible and you are right YOU are YOU!
If i have ever said it then i am sooooo sorrrrry the last thing i would do would be to upset you. You helped me so much when i came here asking for advice, you really are an asset to this forum.

..My addict.?...thats a terrible way to refer to their loved one..it sounds like..my dog..my shoes..my cake..as if they own them..and its disrespectful aswell ..just my opinion..but it ain,t right in my opinion..Robbie..

I personally have a problem w/ the mis-use of the words addict/addiction u see in advertising or some jerk going on how they are addicted to shoes- Oh really you r addicted to shoes? You get the chills, diaharrea, insomnia, running eyes & nose, cramps when u can't get a pair of Manolos? I almost feel like they haven't earned the right to use that word & I have,after 20+ yrs. of this. It is upsetting as I feel overuse of it somehow denigrates the seriousness of the true problem of addiction.Or am I just being cranky in my old age?

Alaska....LOL.....oh yeah I'm addicted to PLATES....I collect PLATES...I won't pass up a plate at a yard sale or flea market....if I do I'll be up for 10 days straight...no sleep....thinking how that plate is all I want....LOL...so I kick the plates....and one day my damn brain chemistry is still back with the plate...even though it caused me to sweat, freeze, have diahrrea (sic), and need a little counseling....LOL....the Monola's....LOL...oh yeah I robbed my kid too of the piggybank money to get me a pair....sold my tail on a corner for the rest of the loot.....ya know what? I needed two more pairs the next day just to feel "normal".

I would never want to be referred to as my mother's addict or anyone's addict that would hurt because we are people and it's so hard for others even us to really know who we are when were using because were not the same people when were using.
I'm discovering who i really am for the first time. I've heard many poeple sat thar herion addicts have the most creative minds and amazing talent but some dont put it to use.
If you think about it i'm shure you can think of someone who is wasting there life on drugs but they have the ability do do amazing things.
I have 2 friends that are sill using one is an amazing artist but wastes his talent drawing tatoo's and selling them for pennies comapared to what he could do and another who writes music and his stuff is amazing.

Hi, Bryn. I have to agree with you here. I could never bring myself to call britt "my addict." I don't want her or you or anyone else to be defined by some stigma that they may never shake. I think in reality we're all addicted to something, but it does not define us. Thanks for, yet again, making us think. luv corrinne
