Hello, I just discovered this forum today. My husband is an alcoholic. He is trying to quit without help from a physician or medication. He hasn't bee very successful. By the 2nd-3rd day he is overwhelmed with physical pain, etc. I have asked that he seek help, but he refuses. Should I be hopeful or skeptical?
if he is having pain on the 2nd or 3rd day he really should have medical attention. how long and how much does he drink? has he ever expressed any interest for a 12 step program such as AA? have you ever tried a alanon meeting for yourself. I know when I was with my ex i neglected everything in my life focusing on his problems and nearly lost myself in the process. Its very important to take care of you right now. If he truly wants to get sober and find recovery he must start learning to take responsibility for his actions. You can be supportive without being co-dependant and that is detaching with love.
Please keep posting and take care of yourself

Hey Melissa my love and energy to you as i know the times you are having i put my wife through years of it. No one will ever tell your husband to quit he is the only person that will make that decision but for your sanity go and find your local Alanon group as they will give you the tools and confidance to deal with a partner in addiction and not aid there addiction anymore.
I had all the doctors and marriage counsellors eating out of my hand and starting to question my wife as they thought i didn't have a problem then i came across the drug and alconol counsellor and they destroyed my little world and made me face reality.
Let us know a bit more about your husbands drinking and if he is willing to go to AA or if you have insurance to go to rehab and remember his fear of not drinking will be massive as the world is a big place when stopping drinking and seeing it sober.
Mellisa go and check out your local alanon and do what you can for you and your husband has to do what he can for himself and together you both may do what you have to for the future. Whatever happens build your energy and strength and light and love to you Mellisa
Light and love Zac
