Withdrawal Help

i have been off of vicodin for over 3 wks after having took it daily for approx 6-7 yrs. i started out taking 10 mg daily and increased dosage over the years to around 40 mg daily. my withdrawal has included nausea, bloating, gas, lots of muscle spasms and twitches, restless legs, severe muscle pain and tremendous body aches. i have very little appetite and then i'll be ravenous. how long will this last? is the dosage or the length of time taking most impt.? my md has put me on mirapex and soma for my legs, but i cont. to miss sleep. if i do too much work i get very nauseated and sore with increase withdrawal symptoms. i feel disabled more than ever. anyone with similar circumstance? please advise me?
Hang in there Blue

It can and usually does take some time to feel better. It took a while to become addicted and you need to try to be patient with yourself. Not easy for us addicts LOL.

You will find support here. Keep posting.

dear blue...............bless your heart...........

can you exercise, and do some physical activities..............

drink lots of water............

please keep posting.............

nice to meet you..........i am thumper.

thanks wendy. i keep getting these ideas there is something else wrong. physically i mean. i'm probably just kidding myself and its total withdrawal. the thought of opiates makes me sick! is that the norm? i have read so many times where people dream of their doc.
thanks thumper, i could definitely use more water. i have been exercising some. i try to make myself get up and do a few light chores, but i have to rest alot. i feel better some days, but then the withdrawal returns. i can't wait until it is gone for good.
Welcome Blue,

Congratulations on 3 weeks.

Yep, what your feeling is very, very normal. You do need to drink water and to eat. Your body needs fuel now more that ever. I know eating is hard. Drink Slim Fast. I know that sounds weird but it really isn't. Slim Fast is a meal in a can. You will get a lot of vitamins with it plus use it in place of the food your not eating now.

Take care of yourself now. Your body has been put through the wringer. Give yourself time to heal. You will sleep normaly again. Everything will return to normal.

You have given yourself a priceless Christmas present this year.

Catherine
Blue,

Make an appointment with your doctor. Tell them what has been going on. Get some blood tests. Put your own mind at ease.

Are you going to meetings or getting some counselling?. They will really help with recovery.

Wendy
thanks catherine, you are right! it's going to be the best christmas i've had in a long time. i'm blue sky because the sky is definitely bluer without opiates. God has given me a peace that surpasses understanding and i know he will continue to bless me and my family. we are having some very trying times and i am amazed at His grace. God continues to work thru His people and many have stepped up to help. i truly can't work a full day at this time. therefore any gainful employment is not possible, but in God's time we will be back on our feet and i will be FREE!

wendy, thanks for the advice i'm seeing my md almost weekly. i definitely do not want to take too many meds, but sleep is essential. i had a thorough physical during my detox in the hospital 2 wks ago. no problems noted.
Blue,

One day at a time. That sentence means a whole lot more to me now. You need to get better before you can work or take care of anyone else now. Once your healthy, the Blue Sky is the limit. lol

It is amazing how much clearer the colors are now huh?

Catherine

yes catherine much more vivid. i was having alot of trouble with my eyes and focusing of course i blamed that on my age. WRONG
bump for Blue Sky.
Blue Sky,

Welcome to the board!! I have taken Vicodin on and off throughout the years for pain. I have detoxed from it twice. I am currently clean and have been for a while. Congratulations on 3 weeks. Gradually you will start to feel better. Your energy will slowly return and the fog will lift.

Allow your body some more time to heal. If your doctor says it's okay start taking some Omega 3 and a good multi vitamin. Start an exercise program at the local gym. If that is possible. You will feel so much better. If you are still having diarrhea try some Immodium AD.

Hang in there. You will feel better very soon. You've come along way and should be very proud of yourself.

Rae
thanks rae, i take 4 g of omega-3 a day, but have not been regular with my multivitamin. i'll work on that. is that enough omega-3?
I take one Omega 3 everyday along with a multi-vitamin. I work out 3 day a week at a gym and eat oatmeal for breakfast.

I really think staying active will help you so much. Your natural energy will return so much faster. You are 3 weeks into your detox this is a good time to start. Even if it means walking a 1/2 mile a day and work your way up.

Rae
i'll definitely have to push myself. i ache so bad some days, but i understand the production of endorphins and exercise. thanks so much for your advice.
