Hi everyone.
I'm on a Suboxone program right now and have been for the past 16 mos. I have had my dosage increased twice and about to increase a third time. I seem to struggle daily with the 'want to use' and the suboxone ,while helps doesn't take the cravings away. Not fully anyway. Do you think Methadone would be better for me? As of now i'm constantly going back to heroin for a few mos..
Dear onedayatatime,
I have never been on suboxone so I cannot advise you on that. Methadone I can tell you about because I have been on it for many years,it saved my life and now I have a life because of it.
I know before long many good people from this site are going to be here to give you answers to your questions, unfortunately ,regardless,it has to be your decision to go on methadone.
My opinion would be talk to your doctor first. Like I said I dont know how high up you can go on suboxone, its a case by case thing I'd think. If you are always wanting to get high then your dose isnt high enough. With methadone you start out at a dose, say 30-40 mgs a day and then they raise you a little at a time until your body stops wanting to use/crave the opiates.Thats what they call a dose that "holds you".
Methadone can be a tool for you to stop using alltogether or can be used as "medically assisted therapy" to give you the time to evaluate where you are and to get some clean time behind you before you make any longer lasting decisions regarding your sobriety.Go to meetings,(N.A.frowns on methadone in recovery,so be careful there.)maybe counseling and talk to your doctor.
You'll hear all kinds of good stuff from the addicts on this site so be patient. If you wait...they will come....Ha Ha
Good luck...

Hey onedayatatime,
Dont know much about Subs...though ive heard that from others about it not holding you so well...do they let you raise it like methadone ?...like Grani said...maybe get an adjustment...i know for me, hen Im on a dose of methadone that is stable, I don't crave...at all...but its like anything...you have to give it a few months and find the right dose too...the methadone seems to also change or correct or whatever it does that addict mindset...to an extent...i mean, your still yourself, but you dont feel the need to use or be around the lifestyle anymore...i was real surprised at its results...helped with my depression too...definetly something to consider if your still using...u maybe already said, but how long have you been on the subs now ?
