i've read that doing dope can cause you to NOT have a period, but
that wasn't the case for me. actually, i think it straightened my period
out because i had an unsteady cycle for a long time until i started
smoking weed and doing opiates on a regular basis. my period became
regular, as well.
on top of the stress i've been facing, moving out of the state, having new jobs, breaking up with long term boyfriend- i know
that all of these are stress factors as well and can have
an effect on my menstrual cycle.
but i was wondering, since my body and hormones
are all out of whack, trying to get back to normal,
could staying clean off opiates also have an effect
on my period?
just curious if any of you might
have experienced this, too.
thanks!
Ok for me the first 2 years i used i did oxycotins and never really had a change in my period but then i started shooting up and they went away. I got clean for about 5 months and everything was back to normal and i started using agian and my periods stoped and when i got clean it took a couple months for them to come back but everything is normal now.
4 weeks that is a great ackoplishment! ,but rember that it will take some time for your body to get completly back to normal. Considering what we did to our bodies i think the body is amazing to be able to bounce back from the torture i put it through. I've been clean for 8 months and i still cant sleep right once i am asleep it's usally ok but getting to sleep is so hard.
I'm not shure if this will help you cause my problem was diffrent from yours but why not try the pill i've been taking it just to regulate my period and it works.
Take care -Mia

four weeks and i'm
overflowing with energy and happiness,
peace has been restored.
i was using 20mg, sometimes less, sometimes more,
only did 40 a couple times)3-4 days a week for about 1 ur.
took several breaks, none has lasted this long. this time
i know it is real. i know it is real because during my
addiction and the few times i tried to quit, i never have
felt like to do today. i have wonderful mother who
supports me and is very understanding. she works
on a psych ward and deals with these kinds of issues
daily- being able to open up to her and talk to
her about the issue and having her respond
in an intellectual manner really helps me mentally.
i suffered minimum physical withdrawals
psychological withdrawals were a bit tougher,
but at this point, i think the struggle
has dissipated to almost NOTHING
i feel like an enormous flower
filled with genuine happiness.
i'm beginning to notice things about
myself that have been placed on the backburner
for the past year. i'm able to enjoy things
i used to- i'm able to concentrate, think clearly, visit
old friends, write letters, practice random acts
of kindness, enjoy work!!!
the worst is over.
i no longer
dread waking up, for i know
that each day is different and new.
my name is paisley daisy for a reason =)

my last post was totally irrelevent sorry for going
off on a tangent, but i feel so good the past few days.
had to tell somebody!
see, most people it takes their period away-
my period never went away, even the short while
that i did inject- still had a period.
i don't liek the concept of birth control, i don't know why-
i took the pill before but i didn't like the way
it made me feel.
bah, i guess i'll just have to wait on it.
i'm beginning to think it's not even drug related,
must just be the change in body and stress-related.
thank you for sharing your experience, though! 8 months is a hell
of a while, keep it up!! sorry that you're having sleeping problems. do you
take anything to help? there are some herbs out there that can
help you, i used to take valerian root and drink a hot glass of milk.
benedryl helps too, but there again you have risk of dependence.
this time goin' clean, the first 2 weeks i would drink a glass of wine every night.
not that i recommend it for you if it triggers bad feelings, but for me
it was effective in calming me down and putting me to sleep. now,
i get tired naturally, and sleep like a baby.
i guess im just lucky.

The first time I got clean it was almost 2-3 months before i got my period, but on dope my periods were VERY irregular. This time I havent had a problem, my periods have been pretty regular. I've heard alot of ladies say that they have experienced missing thier period while getting clean. My mom didn't get hers for 6 months!!
Hello all :-).for me my periods were quite regular while injecting myself.......and nothing worse than being a junkie AND having pms.........always seemed to take more to get me high round my time of month...But when i got clean didnt have a period until 6 months clean.........everyone's different just like everybody's cycle is different.know may ppl who never got thier period the entire time they were getting high...........
wow- so it is different for anyone.
very interesting.

On heroin 3 years my periods got very regular 31 day cycles. Never were regular before that. On methadone they stoped for 9 months "not one". I stoped the methadone had to start birth control pills to get a period. I also lost a lot of weight on heroin i think the weight loss on heroin regulated my cycles and then returne weight gain on methadone caused them to stop again. Yeah stress will also cause you to be irreagular.
zerogirl
that makes sense, I stopped getting my period when I was on methadone and then when I was off of it it took like 2 months before i got another one... This time I kicked CT, and my periods are completley regular

Ladies I absolutely feel for all of you......hysterectomy ON dope.
Now there's a real kick.....right before I got operated on.....I wouldn't even have bothered, but I was afraid a urine might be done for a drug screen....lest I'd have used that morning......well I was UP walking into the bathroom a half hour out of recovery.......these nurses are saying "You have a ctheter you can't get up".
Oh yeah then get it out.....they swore I could not have been under.....then of course a little demerol wouldn't suit me....what a nightmare.....I felt like screaming I could get three bags of dope on the street better than this little bit o honey here.....pffff.....my own fault.
Girls....not to be a downer.....the womanly woman thing.....it all stinks.
Also please, please .....anxiety can be related to hormonal stuff so don't dismiss that.....palpitations, and all.....dang men.....gotta love em though.

Hi ya'll my periods have only just come back last week, and I was thrilled to bits! Before the heroin really took a hold I always used to have a period once a month, then I think due to the drugs and the dramatic amount of weight I had lost (at one point I only weighed 5 and a half stone, which considering my size was nothing!), but after what must be about 4 years I have had my first period, I am so relieved! Although reading some of the posts above I am a bit paranoid now about the methadone causing more trouble for my periods, as I am on a meth script. But my Mum always says every one is different.
