A Bit About Me

i have posted a few topics asking for people to tell me about their drug use for my book but not a lot of folk have come forward so i will tell you all about me so you know who i am.
i am 24 years old and i live in dundee which is in scotland. i have lived here all my life. i have been with my fiancee for 5 years and we have 3 beautiful kids, 2 girls age 6 and 5 and a boy aged 3. i was addicted to heroin for 6 years and went onto methadone for 4 years.
my life on drugs was absolutely hell as my priorities totally changed and i only ever cared about heroin and where i was going to get money from. those of you with kids will know what i mean when i say i let my kids down massively as they all come second to heroin. im just glad they were too young to remember me on heroin so i am eternally grateful for that.
i love my kids more than anything else on this planet and when i think about that love i am gutted that i didnt seek help sooner as a mothers love should be enough but at the time its not and thats what i hate myself for.
i have been working on my book for about 5 months now and am hoping to talk to family members of addicts, addicts themselves, drug workers and people who have tried drugs but never got addicted. the book will include facts about drugs ie what they do to your brain and how people change. it will also include statistics for drug related deaths and people who committ crime for drugs. these are just a few examples as the book will include a lot more. trafford publishing company has already booked it to publish and i am hoping to get it finished soon. everyones names will be changed to protect their identities as drugs is a touchy subject. if you are interested in taking part please e-mail me at writerdarrelle@hotmail.co.uk
i will get straight back to you. remember no-one will get paid for their stories as you have to volunteer the info to me. i hope i hear from you all very soon as i only have another 3 weeks to find people to talk to and if i dont hear from anyone by then im afraid you wont be able to take part. remember it doesnt matter if you are no longer using or are still using as long as you have drug addiction in your life at some point.

i hope to hear from you all soon and please take care.

THANK YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would a book like this have stopped you from becoming addicted to heroin?
hi silent partner. to answer your question honestly i dont think anything could STOP people becoming addicted to drugs but if there was a book on the shelves that had the info in it that i am putting in my book then i believe that it would have gave me good and honest advice and guidance. all the books out there today regarding drug use is from someone who has never experienced it for themselves so when an addict says they are high they take it literally and think we were flying 25 foot in the air. i believe that my book WILL be able to help young people who are considering trying drugs because i have been there through good and bad times and i have witnessed an awful lot. even if i change the mind of one young person who feels like giving drugs a go then my book will be a success.
There dozens of books written from the addicts perspective. Are you just another one trying to cash in?

Great book- by a great established author, and journalist. Hamill might be better known in the NY area as he has written for the major NY newspapers- regardless, a best seller and a good read.
with me living in scotland there are not so many books on the shelves from the addicts point of view but will definately be looking online for the books mentioned. just so you all know the book might not be a success so i might not make any money and to publish a book i will have to pay the publishers no more than 2000 and if it fails i am out of pocket but that is something i have to deal with.
i used to be addicted on heroin and have been through some s*** and to be honest with you all writing this book has been good for me because it has given me something to do with my time. i cant work because i have epilepsy so i am stuck at home day in day out and i found writing the book is doing wonders for me as i am doing something positive with my time. obviously some of you are going to have your opinions and thats fine but i am only trying to live as best a life that i could and find something i enjoy (writing) and yes, hopefully raise money to give my kids a great life. and if i can help just one young person that is considering taking drugs with my story then all the better as i dont want anyone to live the life that all of us addicts/ex-addicts are aware of. i hope i have cleared up the issue of people thinking that i am just trying to cash in on all of our lives because it is not like that at all.
