A Constellation Of Things

I'm watching a program on HBOW called, "Addiction: The Supplementary Series," and it's a discussion on WHAT an effective treatment is, how difficult it is to sift through ALL of the 'solutions,' of anxiety, depression, insecurities, etc. Seems to me that "full assessments," MAY be able to help break a pattern, but they all need to be addressed at the same time. AND most folks can't afford a comprehensive treatment--and then there's the dynamic that symptoms change as one area is treated. "This is not easy to do." Of course, there's always the HONESTY that's missing from the patient, too...

"AA and NA are NOT treatment programs. They're not about getting you to stop, they're about keeping you from starting again." Got a problem with that, because it's the ONLY program that's gotten me to stop and has kept me from relapsing.

Anyway, just blabbering, but seems to me that these types of programs are just as confusing. When someone finally realizes they or their family member has a problem with addiction, they're looking for answers on solutions that work. In ALL of these "solutions," none of them address the individual's responsibility in acceptance of the illness. We see it here, in groups, in our families and daily life.

Hi SKG I saw that show. I was suprised by some of the things that the counselors were saying too. I suppose there are all types of treatment and follow up care but I had many questions after watching it.

I guess there is no wrong way to get and stay sober and no right way to drink and drug.

Peace out pal! :-)
