God bless you guys who watch over this site with such care. It has been a serious blessing for me. i have a thought and i guess a question all in one. do you guys believe a person with real pain issues could or should utilize these meds for there designed use indefinatly? i have been on hydro and oxy both for a long time and they work great. my work is very physically taxing and at the end of 10 or 12 hours i really thank god for this stuff. i am also of course habituated physically on them and it is hell when i run out before my refill is here. my doc says there is zero shame in my situation. he says i can compare myself to a insulin user. i do use this stuff as perscribed. i will take a little more after a particularly heavy day or what have you. what do you think? should i live with my pain just to be rid of this stuff? what do you think guys?
my personal opinion is quite simple.... it boils down to intent... if you are ligitimately using them for pain then good for you .. assuming that you use only as prescribed and you are aware of certain key facts... that most opiates even the long acting ones like ms contin and oxycontin have ceilings and the body is set up to build up a tolerance ... our brain does not know 'well now this is taken for real pain so I shouldnt build up a tolerance'... there are two different types of tolerances .. phyical tolerance where it will take more and more to act on the pain ... and phychological tolerance where most addict live where it takes more and more of the drug to get the same 'high'... sometimes called chasing the dragon...
anyway... it is a personal choice with you and your doc...even though there are lots of pain options.. sometimes we unconsciously use real pain as an exuse to use ... not saying that this is your case but... some do it...
again if you use only as prescribed and dont takes extra for any other reason.. like stress or to just unwind... then God Bless you...just keep an eye on your liver and kidneys and if you have a little voice that keeps nagging you about stopping and you find your self making exuses or things.. maybe you should take a good hard look at what the little voice it seeing that you may not want to..
Good luck and God Bless

Just knew that question was for you Theresa. When I read it a little while ago, I wondered if you were around and would see it. You do what you do so well. Love you, Kat
i really have no idea what is the right thing for me... i wish i could earn a living in a less stressful way physically . no way though. i am looking at some holistic possibilities as well as just doing with out. i am just so unsure. it terrifys me reading all the bad things that are happening to good people on this site. i have a hard time putting all the blame on a pill though might i add... personal responsibility has to enter the equation at some point ... correct or no?
Getsome, my humble opinion , for what its worth,is that pain meds are made for people in pain, such as yourself. I'm guessing that the difference between a non abusive (i mean a person who doen't abuse drugs) and someone like me is: painers were almost like marriage, i took them in sickness and in health whether i needed them or not, & the idea of going to a Dr. if i hurt my back, leg, toe, or anything else, was only to get pain pills. I have been told, & have met people that only take them when they are in pain. To me this concept is incomprehensible. Ask yourself this question, would it be worth not being in pain & therefore not getting the pain pills. If your answer is, "Is this guy crazy. of course I'd rather not be in pain" you are probably OK. Again, only my humble opinion.
My opinion (aren't opinions wonderful?) is that from reading what you had to say... if the pills aren't interfering with your life...causing insanity, immoral decisions etc and you are using them as prescribed and telling your dr (and he's ok with it) that you are using a little more when needed; continue to take them. You'll know when they take over your life and you're doing things to make sure you get to take them. Just be honest with yourself. You're the only one that knows. If you aren't being honest and are just looking for justification to continue using, then you came to the right place, we can help when you want to get honest. Again..only you know the right answer.
