I am addicted to pain medications and I have tried to stop them cold turkey but I feel like crap for awhile and then go right back because I cannot function without them. I live in the fear each day that I am going to lose my job and I really don't want to do the drugs and I have to keep my job. i am desperate for help. Does anyone know what I can do at home to get off of this junk?
Please help.
jack h,
Do you really want to get off the drugs? Really? Your answer is the key to if you can or not.

yes I do.
Hi jack h,
All addicted persons will give you advice on how to do it. I can only share mine. I have been addicted to many things. On and off I have been addicted to heroin, crack, alcohol. I managed to escape from all of those, but I continued to use pain killers throughout my life. I have a lot of experience with addiction, having lived it since I was very young, and even working in a detox facility helping others to survive the withdrawal process. If you wish to share, how much are you using, and what type of meds?

Hi Jack, first of all...I know exactly how you feel. Most people here do. Really wanting to quit is essential but not all. We have a disease. We need help. We are powerless over this drug. We know we are powerless because if we weren't we would just stop and it would be no big deal. You're seeking help by coming here. That's what I did too. It's a little soon for me to be telling you everything you need to know. I'm still new in recovery and I don't want to guide you incorrectly. Be patient. People will be on here to show you the way and help you any way they can. I can advise you to be as willing as you can to listen. Our addiction wants to make us fight getting well. Take what you're told to heart. I would also recommend educating yourself about this disease. Go online and read everything you can find. I did that too. I recommend learning about the twelve steps. Good luck!!!!! Kat
