Addiction: Real Or Willpower?

I have read so, so, soooooo much on this topic. I have even spoken to many professionals - medical - to try to convince myself of the answer I craved. I wanted the answer the lie with willpower, for years that is the answer I longed for.
Addiction is a taboo topic. Unlike cancer, there is the advantage that YOU can SAVE yourself. Or can you? This question is exactly why the topic of addiction is so taboo.
I plan to go back to do a Post G at uni, for the Americans, this is an honoury degree, and this will be my final examination topic.
I believe addiction is very much a Disease, that no one sets out to be an addict, that addiction does not discriminate.
I would love to hear you opinions, each of which I will note for my research

You can't edit a post once a reply has been made to it, even if you were the one who made the reply. FYI, this board has very little traffic, but this topic has been debated a hundred times on the Pain PIlls board.

Well, I put it out there that this board does not have much traffic because you seem to be taking it personally that no one is responding to you. Some people only log on and read on ONE board, and many log on and skim, they see something on "General/Miscellaneous" and they don't read or read quickly and don't reply. In other words, you'd get more action on this thread if you put it on some other board, like pain pills or alcohol where you've posted before, instead of posting, deleting, and getting upset when you don't get a reply. I know how when I first got here I felt like these boards were a lifeline for me, so I am trying to pass on the benefit of my experience for what it's worth.

It is not a question of will power but God ( of your understanding) power.

Addiction is a SPIRITUAL DISEASE with genetic aspects
THE BEST TREATMENT IS A SPIRITUAL PROGRAM OF RECOVERY like 12 steps.

We do not use will power, we admit defeat over our addiction, and turn over our will and surrender to God.
