Still tired after 5 months after quitting, is this normal ??
yup..takes a long time for the body and mind to heal from addiction...
Yes , it is normal matter and don't worry because there is no reason to worry. After quitting alcohol it take long time to be refresh oneself.
Hello, I'm new to this site and just had a basic question. I'm on my fourth day of tapering and that is going well but the shakes are the same and I still have insomnia. Thanks for any advice
Hi aknox. my advice would be to seek medical help.Depending on how much alcohol you have been consuming daily there is a risk of seizures and other complications during detox...
Hello Pirate, Thanks for your support. I was up to drinking a case of beer a day. Then stepped it down to 20, then 16, today 10, 8, etc. Basically I have cut my drinking by over half in 3 days. I'm not having any side effects except when I lay down at night my legs occasionally quiver. Based on my taper schedule I should by alcohol free by Saturday. I guess my question is when I stop drinking when will this leg thing go away? Oh, I have insomnia too, surprise!
Thanks Pirate,
Ashley

alcohol affects the central nervous system so when you come off it you can have all manner of weird things happening. Restlessness and inability to sit still, shakes, jumpiness and yep insomnia. It can take a long time for our bodies to readjust but eventually they do.
I used to see things, bugs and cockroaches on the wall out of the corner of my eye. I'd jump a mile, spin around to look and nothing would be there. That went on for at least a year - did settle eventually.

Thank so munch for you words of encouragement. Your post, however disturbing, because it confirms what I had already suspected. However the post was also uplifting, because it also confirms what I had already suspected. I am blessed in the fact that I have support from people all around me; they are just waiting on me.
Hi aknox. for me the first few months of sobriety was the worst. It took a long time before my body got used to functioning without alcohol. you might find many weird symptoms but in time it will all pass. Work on the mental part of your addiction and the body will follow. Do not compare yourself to anyone else as we have the same disease but we are all different in the ways we recover. I saw things as well and had the sensation of crawling under my skin. Had noises in my ears and so on.. Recovery is not easy but if you are willing to get thru the first of it there lies ahead a good life... oh the FREEDOM of not being chained to the bottle!.. YOU CAN DO THIS...
