All We Have Is Now (today's Thought)

All We Have Is Now

We can only live now, this moment. We cannot erase the mistakes we made yesterday or bring back the good times we had. We cannot know what tomorrow will require of us, nor can we ensure future security and happiness. Now is what we have, and now is everything.

We can follow our plan now. We can abstain this moment. We can deal with the problems, which confront us today as best we can, trusting God to guide us. We can be in touch with our Higher Power only in the present.

As we focus on the present moment, we live it deeper, and we derive a satisfaction that we did not know when we were regretting the past and worrying about the future. Whatever happens, now is all I can manage and all I need.

I am grateful for this present moment.

This is one that is so good for the newcomer to hear!
Janet:

Hey! HUGE HUGS...

At exactly the time you were posting this beautiful thought I was rambling away on Tim's thread trying to say the very same thing, but not being very articulate! I love this thread...it has taken me 3 months of REALLY trying to stop projecting to get that I have to STOP projecting.

I am becoming so much more relaxed...and really grateful for EACH, LITTLE DAY!

This letting go of events past, and fantasizing of events future, is not as easy as it sounds...it takes some pacing and serious internal dialogue. Gently, I have been able to finally stop these thoughts before they fully arise. Thank you GOD!

Anyway, great post, and I love it when the synchronicity happens....let's me know I am on the right track!

Love ya Janet!

Sarah
God works in miraculous ways...

I have written this thought out to others myself...Tye was so grateful when she first got here, bc this was something she needed to hear...no way could I have written it so eloquently.

I've been missing you hon, got your Xmas shopping done? I've been loving this cold weather!

OMG, are you watching the news about this poor woman who got hit after getting off of the bus??? How awful!
Good Post

I like this about living in the NOW.

"We have divided life into past, present, and future. The past is composed of memory;the future is the projection of that memory;and the present is the tool we use to transform the past into the future. We act in the present to achieve some future goal-pleasure,security,or continuity. We attempt to relive the past through the reactivation of our memories, and to create the future through action of the will. The present is lost in this process.Yet neither the past nor the future exist.
The present is the only reality. "

If you live in the now you won't experience shame or guilt.
i haven't even hit a lick on my shopping. not one. bad, bad elf.

husband and i are not exchanging because we are going to new york in january. i got a painting in a group show at a very nice gallery in chelsea, so woooo hoooo...we are going to that opening!

we are bringing a whole north louisiana contigent too! 6 other people are taking this opportunity to visit the city as well. we are all staying en mass at the Chelsea Hotel, so it should be a lot of fun.

i need to shop for some of my family...not too much though, we usually make a donation in the names of our adult relatives...we all have every single thing we need, so we adopt children who don't at Christmas, and do it in someone else's name. But, the young people deserve the "unwrapping" experience...

my husband and i could never wait til christmas to give one another our gifts anyway...we would get too excited and spring them on each other, one by one. hahaha...i guess that is how it is done when you don't have children. *laugh*

i will be doing a lot of cooking starting the 19th, because I do like to treat my close friends with something fresh and tasty that i make myself. that is my FAVORITE part of christmas.

i gotta get my butt in gear. i have a lot to do this morning and hit the road for a late nighter in ruston town.

love...sarah
I have a bunch of baking to do also..mmm homemade biscotti!!

wish I could go along on the "ride" to NY...I'm so proud of you for this achievement!
Janet,

Thanks so much. I copied this one for my daughter who is hard-headed worrying about the future. This was a great addendum to our "little talk".
