Did I see where you're going to NYC? I'm going there to see an old college roommate ... I'm super-excited! I basically won't sleep for a week because of excitement! She's a born-and-raised Manhattanite with a rent controlled apartment on Times Square ... I just can't wait!! We're going to get into a ton of stuff and I seriously won't be sleeping for the joy. :-) I hope you have a great time!!

Oscar Wilde. Couldn't tell you what he wrote but I saw his grave. People kiss the tombstone and leave lipstick prints all over it. May he rest in peace.

Thanks, Brynda! I appreciate it. Did you say you got to see Oscar's grave? Wow!! That's really cool. He had such a tragic ending, it really isn't right at all. Poor, brilliant Oscar!! I can't believe how backwards things were then (and still are in some areas) for non-straight people. My city has an openly gay mayor ... I can't imagine living back then ... it seems bizarre to me. I bet that's why they're so many lipstick kisses all over it. He's such an icon for standing up for who you are.

I did ChloeB...always do. My sis lives on the lower east side in a very safe neighborhood by Manhattan's standards and we do a lot of walking and shopping and noshing and just hanging out. She was one who stayed after 9/11 and bought an apartment at super cheap interest rates as others fled the city...she has a lovely 2 bedroom in a great building and plenty of free street parking in the neighborhood. The day she called me and said, "I am not sure if I should go ahead and buy this apartment." I was like, "Are you nuts?! DO IT!" The place has more than doubled in value since. She works for MTV in Times Square so there's always entertainment on tap and I can get there in 4 hours driving.
You have mad fun CB! You are obviously in the right frame of mind for the visit and the holidays in NYC are always lovely. Have a grand old time time =)

The LES- - used to be (about 20 or so yrs ago) one of the most run down, homeless and drug riddled hoods in Manhattan
Now the Yups- are fighting for the real estate
It was the hippiest hood in the 60s and 70,s- - then dangerous and crime filled in the 80,s into the early 90,s
Now in 2010- - Its getting a upper class feel to it (being as the city ,really doesn't have a middle class)- the middle class live in the outer boroughs & North Jersey
Unless your wealthy- or find a place that you can live in with 4 roommates- its hard to live in comfort in the best places of the city
Back in the old days- -we lived in a rent controlled blg in Chelsea (in the 20,s) so I was close to MSG and 14th street- -which some called the start of the Village-
Those were fun days- as I guess many are, when your a kid in a semi-normal family
