Another Tragic News Story

A 24-year-old man who lived the next street over from me was sentenced yesterday to 32 years to life in prison. On Valentine's Day this year, he went over to his disabled father-in-law's house to steal his Oxycontin...which was locked in a safe. He shot and killed his father-in-law and pushed him down the basement stairs in his wheelchair. The only thing he took from the house were the drugs.

Before sentencing, the judge said "If anyone were a poster child for showing how badly drugs can bring a person down, you're it." He has a 3-year-old daughter who is now missing out on a life with her Daddy and her Grandpa. It is sad how many lives were permanently damaged over a temporary high. It just goes to show how addiction can cause a person to do the unthinkable.
What a sad story, Jodi. I think they should just outlaw that stuff except for terminally ill people.
From what I've seen and experienced personally, tolerance for it grows very fast. Pretty soon the person stays in an almost constant state of wd. People I've known who were on in for acute pain said that once they got off it they were actually in less pain.
That poor little girl, she lost her grandpa and dad in one whack. I hate to think of how she will have to deal with that all her life.
Even the guy who did it, once he's clean I can't even imagine the guilt and remorse....but all too late.
Just sad.

Here's another -- This summer (Aug. 27) 10:00 p.m. a couple was cruising down the lake (Smith Mountain Lake, nearby me) after dinner with friends, heading home in their 33 ft. Wellcraft cabin cruiser (not a small boat). They were hit from behind by a big speed boat (38 ft.) going over 60 miles an hour. The speed boat slammed into them, killing them and their dalmation, Lady, instantly and vaulted over top of their boat. I guess they never knew what hit them. AND, guess what was discovered in the speed boat drivers system? Lortab and liquor. Scary.
Our boat is for sale. Gosh, the horrible things drugs do to us.

Natty
Wouldn't matter if they outlawed it Kat, people would still be able to get it off the streets and that's what it's become, a street drug.

Very sad.

How's my two of my favorite girls this morning?

Lisa
Hello, Lisa. Just enjoying this beautful fall weather. How are you? I've got to hit the shower so I can go to lunch with MIL. Red Lobster, yummy rolls! Cheddar and something......... hope you have a great weekend!! XXOO Natty
True Lisa (and good morning!). But if the drug were only given to terminally ill people, there would be alot less folks out there selling it. I heard that it's nearly impossible to get it online. At least it would be less available for those seeking it. Not that my thought matters much, there are too many drs willing to give it out.
A shame.
Love, Kat
You're right about that, Kat...it would be harder and less available, but still there. The powerful lobbiest for the drug companys will never allow them to be restricted in their use. Too much money is at stake. Now that's sad. Our own goverment won't protect us.

Morning Natty, you posted at the same time otherwise I would have said, three of my favorite girls...lol Enjoy your lunch.
