Most know were im at on m detox but as long as I remember at least the last year, I go all day till around 5pm with out eating . I know it screws up my blood sugur and turns me into a lunitic mentally but my question is more about the am. My wife being the good spouse she is is always trying to get me to eat some breakfast but the thought almost makes me want to puke. Its as if my stomach repulses at the idea of putting food in it in the morning. Now when I was on morphine at night I could go through a gallon of ice cream but that was then. I am starving at dinner. I dont eat lunch because if I know I have to do a house call I dont want to take the time to stop. I realize for my recovery I will need to take better care of my self, but has anyone else had the breakfast problem.? Did it stop when you got clean? any input would help as I know Im puting myself through unnessesary hell l( gee how unusual for an addict)HA HA.
When I quit taking pain pills about 3 months ago, I went to the doctor and had $700 worth of blood work done... My liver enzymes were only slightly elevated (good for all the acetaminophen I've ingested), but the thing that worried him the most was that I was malnourished. Looking at my blood work, I looked anorexic, as though I hadn't eaten in years. I am 4'11 and 100lbs so I'm the right weight for my height, I eat like a raving lunatic (I eat more than most men I know).... but the doctor didn't believe me.
I did some research and found out that it's hard for your liver to metabolize certain vitamins as well as acetaminophen at the same time, so I wasn't getting the nourishment I needed from food. Also, because of the Norco, I craved a lot of sweets, not the vegetables and whole wheat I was used to eating. Most addicts don't realize it, but being malnourished can cause a lot of problems & it's a big concern if you are using drugs...
Now I take a multi-vitamin in the morning and at night. You should do the same, even if you don't eat regularly. Try to eat small, frequent meals, even if you aren't hungry. I would throw spinach and broccoli into my spaghetti when I was going through detox and try to eat a few bites of it every hour. Eat cereal if you're craving something sweet or if you're not hungry, because at least it's fortified.

Thanks for the reply what is interesting in all my years of drugging I always took many great multivitamins seems contradictory but will try your advise on the small meals thanks again Ray
Ray- Danielle is right. Sometimes you have to force yourself to eat and cereal (not like a kids cereal) is one of the best things you can eat. It's also light on the stomach. I eat a lot of Special K, Corn Flakes, that kind of stuff...
I'm a horrible eater. I never ate breakfast since I've been an adult, using or not. Just can't eat then. I can however, down a pepsi or two. Bad I know, but I guess its just become habit, I make my kids eat right, but I don't practice what I preach.
Briar- I used to do that when I was in college. I used to drink a Coke every day on the way to class. Now though, I eat breakfast every morning and Dinner every night. I usually skip lunch..
Hi Ramon,
I have exactly the sames problem! I'm on a subutex reduction and I just can't eat in the morning! I've asked my doc and my phmacist if its a side effect but they say 'they've never heard of it before but everyone can react to the mediction differently' so what i do is make myself eat a bowl of sweet porridge about 2pm-i really couldnt eat it any earlier- and then i manage some dinner later. i just havent been hungry BUT i've still put a bit of weight on so i think my matabolism is screwd up due to really bad eating habbits, I'm hopeing that when I'm off everything it will return to normal and if i got my arse to the gym then that'd help-i do mean to join the gym at work, i just keep putting it off, think i'll make it a new years resolution!!!.... These are just some of the ideas i've had, hope this helps?
