The piece is very compelling. I like the way the goblets are placed, like a hand holding a drink. Ritual dinner guests. (I'm probably missing your intention altogether, but hey, once you put it out there, the work gets to stand on its own.)

Thank you for sharing these. I can't wait to see your paintings. Can you format and resend? I like minimalism, too.

Very impressive, Sarah. Where is this exhibited?

Love,
Gina

Oil on canvas, 30 x 30

It's so evocative -- floating up to the light, through darkness. So full of hope. I love it, Sarah. Can you send me the others in the series? I think we need to see all of them together.
Gina:

Thank you for posting the pics. I resent the other image in a more suitable format! This exhibit was up over the summer in the main gallery of La. Tech.
I am glad you enjoy it. Art is all about what the viewer brings to it, so thank you for looking! The other painting that hopefully you can post for me was exhibited earlier this year in NY. I hope you enjoy it as well.

Everyone have an easy hump day. I am off to the hinter lands once again...just to see if I can find my way back home!

Peace to the peeps.

Sarah

edit to add: as soon as I can find the disc, to load the other images, or scan the slides I will send them. These two just happen to be on my hard drive...so, it may not be immediate! Sorry, my tech skills are more than a little lacking!
sorry but it does not float my boat. I am sure it appeals to some and i enjoy looking at different themes. If it is meant to be exitentialist then i am sure some may see more than my inadequate eyes can but my perception is left wanting.

Thank you for sharing these Sarah, how cool to see your creative side.

I looked and thought about what you said, what the viewer sees. For me, I thought of myself in the middle and everywhere I turn people are there...which leads me think of what other people think of me...but they are silent, so does it really matter anyway? In the end, its what I think of myself that counts. I'm still pondering "mercy"...it could apply in so many different ways.

I'm curious to what others perception is.

Please share more.

xx
sarah very very nice, now so i understand did you put together the arrangement of mercy??
amy said she would like others opinions, so i will try to offer mine, when i look at the arrangement with mercy in the middle, it seems that i somehow associate the expression- less faces as my friends who are there if i need them, and they are there to offer me mercy if i invite them in by offering them a goblet of some kind of drink (non alcholic in my situation), their faces have no expression which is good because they are not here to judge me and the goblets of different shapes represents the different personalitities of my friends, immediately i felt a good feeling when i enjoyed the femininity of the table cloth and the beauty of the plate with pretty scalloped edges. ok i tried, please dont laugh, this is the first time i ever analyzed art!
Now as far as the painting goes, very nice indeed but i do not have the God given talent to analyze such things in an abstract manner. i do so admire people who can. tell me sarah what were your intentions when you painted that piece? what were you hoping the viewer would conceive?jewels

Your interpretation got me to think even more Jewels. I'm having problems with friends right now and you gave me some food for thought. Thank you for that.

With Tim's permission, I'm hanging a painting of his in our gallery.

If there are any other artists out there, please exhibit your work here. I know we are a talented group.

Tim, you and Sarah are very different sorts of painters. But equally gifted.

(I feel like the Mabel Dodge Luhan of the ARG board, LOL.)

Love,
Gina

I am amazed...I knew Tim was talented and knew Sarah was an artist but had no idea just how talented she is. Very compelling....I love art that makes you think. It's not there in black in white and has it all figured out for you. Very cool Sarah.

Hey Everyone!

Thank you for your comments...I am glad you guys had something "different" to think about today!

Tim: Our work may by different in subject matter, but with oil paint, its been done the same for hundreds of years, right? Thin to thick, dark to light! That is the only way I have found that it works!

About my art work in general...and my life, etc (is there a difference?)....I am always thinking about mercy...us having it from God, giving it to one another. I think for me, the goal as a living being is to keep searching for a way to exist in a state of grace.

Gina, yes, I am always happy when the "zone" is available! The work, be it writing, cooking, cleaning house, whatever, comes out like a satin ribbon when we are connected to it....otherwise, it is jaggedy and difficult. For me, painting, building pieces, printmaking...these things are simple...but that doesn't mean they are easy. I am always in the process of winnowing away what isn't necessary.

Amy, Jewels, Neon Trifle, and Lisa...Thank you so much for your comments...and for considering my work! No artist can be all things to all people...the best we can hope for is to cause some reaction...and we cannot qualify that for others.

Amy...I need to write you. You have been on my mind. As always, I love to see you post!

Everyone have a wonderful evening!

Peace.

Sarah
