I feel like I've been too abruptly pushed from the nest, but here goes...
I've been trying to garner the courage to post, but have instead only been able to read. Now I fear that remaining silent might prove devastating for me and maybe more importantly, many, many more of us.
August, PLEASE don't leave this board. Or at least if you do, please place me on the list of those lucky enough to be allowed to follow you to another site.
I am beginning a part of my journey that I feel you could help me with. Your posts on this board have already been a gift to my heart and healing to my soul, but I feel certain that I have not yet seen even a portion of the incredible gifts your journey has bestowed on you. You are "paying it forward" and I am reaping the benefits.
Maybe I'm being selfish. If so, it's because that's what I need to be right now. I'm standing up and asking for what I need (man, that feels good)! August - I need to continue to draw from your wisdom and strength.
I have no idea what the post regarding another board was about. I have not read any other boards, nor will I now. I came to this site not a week after you asked for a marijuana board. I am one who firmly believes that everything happens for a reason. "Meeting" you (as absurd as that sounds considering you never knew I existed) was an important piece of my journey. I'd be sad to learn that this is the end, were it done today, but if so, please know that I'll gratefully accept what you've so graciously given and promise to "pay it forward" as well.
You are a treasured gift, August.
TrulyBlessed
I've been reading alot of August, and with all due respect, I feel he is clinging to the old A.A./N.A. dogma that has exacerbated the drug problem in this country.
MARIJUANA IS NOT ADDICTIVE !! at least in a medical sense. There is no withdrawal. If you read most of these postings, the problems people are having are due to the fact that weed is illegal. When we demonize a drug like pot, we downplay the real dangers of other drugs!
Anyway, I'm sure August is of the best intentions, but for any real progress to be made in chemical dependancy, we need to develope a program that actually works. Not cling onto the A.A./N.A. program that attempts to make God responcible for our screw-ups! (Really read the steps) Statistically, 90% of the people that go to these programs end up leaving them. And of the 10% that remain; 50% of them have (allowable by the program) "slips"... A program that is only 5% effective is not what we need. PLEASE read "The Truth About Addiction And Recovery" by Dr. Stanton Peele...
100% of all addicts started on mother's milk......Shall we make it illegal? M.A.??
