Welcome to the Board...I'm so happy you found us! I read your recent posts and then your Success story. Truly inspiring! Although I'm pretty sure I'm much older than you, you're story is similar to mine and I love the way that you embrace the Program. My sobriety date is November 22, 2003, I have a Home group, a Sponsor, work the Steps and principles of the program in my life to the best of my ability, have a God of my own understanding, work with newcomers, speak at meetings, go on Panels to Hospitals and Institutions...I do all of this and more...I know without a doubt I would not have sobriety, let alone the peace and serenity I have found without these vital actions that I take to grow in recovery. Again, so glad to have connected.
VW Girl,
Thanks! Glad to be here! Actually I was a lurker (heh,heh..lol..) for a few months and then I finally worked up the courage to go public- so here I am.
I get a lot of good recovery from this board(from all of them actually). Wer'e all just alcoholics and addicts trying to stay sober and help each other in the process. I'm a BIG believer in the 12 steps. They SAVED MY BUTT, and I will always be indebted to the program - so I try to do lots of service work. It does really make you feel better- who knew my sponsor actually knew what she was talking about?!..lol..
I wasn't sure if I should tell my story on a few threads to introduce myself or what (I skip around -as a lot of people do) - I figured to post it once up on the Success story board- that seems to be kinda what that is for ...
Anyway, thanks for the official Welcome and I look forward to talking with you and everyone else more.
Carolyn

Carolyn, Thanks for responding to my post. I also realize I need to give back what was so freely given to me in order to keep it. The Program is all about love and service, which Dr Bob and Bill W implemented all during their sobriety. I'm glad I have commitments at meeting...having commitments at meetings gets me to meetings when sometimes I would just want to blow it off. Anyways, isn't it great we no longer have to feel the way we use to? This time I've totally immersed myself in the Program and I am grateful that the obsession and cravings for alcohol and cocaine have subsided. Now, my mind doesn't race to the old thinking of "a drink is what I need" when facing life instead I pick up my tools that I've learned from the Program and apply them to any given situation. Life is pretty darn good today (except I'm home sick with flu)
Amen to that sister!
I just started a new job (benefits, drug testing- a good job-yea!) and the program really has helped me deal with the anxiety of all that entailed a new working environment.
Had to find meetings to work around my schedule and found one @ 9:30 am right down the street ( like 3 minutes away form my house) and it gives me plenty if time to be at work by noon. Funny thing is it is the 1st time I have been to this club, and it has been under my nose this whole time!
Once again God doing for us what we could not do for ourselves!
Gotta go to work-
God Bless,
Carolyn

Congratulations on the new job! Where I live (SoCal, by the beach) we are fortunate to have a ton of AA meetings (morning, noon and night), some NA & CA, also PA, but not as many as AA. I work for a large corporation and there are even meetings at another Aerospace corp down the street during lunch time. God certainly did for me what I could not do for myself. Take it easy.
