Hi Guys, my husband is having severe lower back pain and he won't go to the doctors cuz he says its a waste of time and he will let me give him ibuprofen but he has no addictions and hates taking any medications. But I was wondering if anyone here has back spasms and pain and has figured some ways of helping it naturally. Since a lot of you guys are in recovery I thought you guys might have some thoughts.
It just hurts me to see him like that. And when he got up this morning he literally fell off the bed and onto the floor because his back locked up.
Any advice would be greatly welcomed.
Thank you
Cass

Hi Cass,
Hubby's back locks up on him sometimes too. He has had MRI's and it showed bulged discs. Other than physical therapy, chiropractic therapy and the hot tub...all those and anti-inflammatories help...he was advised to lose the "belly" middle aged men (some) acquire as it really strains the back. Lose weight and strengthen the ab muscles. (gently and not right away) He hates opiates they make him too woozy....sheesh...wish that had been me!
Lots of luck and baby him :)

Cass, My husband has the same thing happen to him all the time. The navy has put him through so many test and p.t it is not even funny. With him his is a pinched nerve. Like your husband he hates any type of meds but when he can't take the pain anymore he ends up in the emergency room and they give him a shot of toradol. The doctor now has givien him a tens unit to apply to his back when the pain sets in. He swears by it. He needs to go see a doctor and have some test done. Good luck, Shantel
My daughter just had severe back pain for 30 days, Turns out it was her gall bladder. If it is that, it only gets worse.
Make sure he has pillows under his knees when he's laying down. Sleeping flat on the back causes pressure on that lower back area. If he sleeps on his stomach, make sure the pillow is under his belly area. The clue is to keep that lower back area curved instead of flat. He has my sympathy. He may be right. I had back spasms for 6 weeks and went to all the docs and it didn't help. Momenturm did help a bit....this is otc and has a mild muscle relaxant in it. Best of luck and loads of sympathy.
P.S. A back belt might help with pain. Just pull it as tight as he can stand it.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you guys I had a computer problem (happens everytime my 14 year old uses it Lol) thank you so much for your ideas and advice and I will try all of them.
He does have a little belly (i over feed him lol). I told him I would start giving him smaller portions at dinner and no more dessert for him unless its fruit or cereal. I will see if I can get him to go to the doctor but he is so stubborn. His father has reallly bad back problems, is it hereditary??
I will also try the pillows and other stuff you guys suggested. I know that back problems are pretty much touch and go, hit and miss.
I am doing ok, going through a lot of depression, worthlessness feelings like I am just useless on earth. Can't find a job still!!!! I am holding the family back and I just dont know what to do anymore. Not to mention I just don't feel like functioning. I have been able to get up and go to interviews but no one wants me...............ugh!! Sorry for the pity party LOL.

It's depressing to want to work, but have no job. What kind of work are you looking for? Can you branch out into other areas? You might find a book in the library that will help you to market yourself. A resume is key. If you haven't got one, do yourself a favor and make one up. Are you dressing appropriately for interviews? Finding out about the company in advance and showing your knowledge at interviews? You are lucky because you have a jump on students who will be applying in the later spring. Perhaps you need to update your skills by attending a night class in your field. In any case, I'll bet your hubby loves the extra attention that he's getting while he doesn't feel well and it should make you feel good to be able to give that attention. Keep posting. You need to get people's ideas and it's a wonderful place to start. You can also be of service to others by posting ideas for them. It will boost your self confidence also. ((((Hugs.)))))
Cass, Sorry to see you are feeling so down but you gotta pick yourself up dust yourself off and get back to living. What ever happened to medical billing and coding? Are you still interested in that? A job will come with time just keep putting your resumes out there. Maybe the ones you got turned down for weren't the right ones for you. It's good to see you are reading your bible. I always notice when I stray away from the lord my life turns upside down. That's his way of showing me I can't do it alone. I love watching Joyce Meyers and Joel Olsteen. I have a couple of Joels books and his devotionals. It has been awhile since we have e-mailed. If you ever need to talk my e-mail is the same. Hang in there. Shantel
Cass, I play softball so I know all about backpain. Since I've gone sober(going on day 9) Doans seems to have been working for me, not 100% but defintely takes a good chunk of the pain away. A heating pad may not hurt either, I'm no doctor, so check with your physcian first if this is ok to try. Good luck... - Chris
