Benadryl As A Trigger

I haven't felt good for the last few days or so. Runny nose, cough itchy, watery eyes. I went to the pharmacist and he recommended Benadryl. I took it for the last 2 nights and tonight I found myself wanting to take more. I will admit that I started to like the drowsy feeling it gave me. I am not feeling well yet but I had to throw the rest down the toilet. Has anyone else come across having to stay away from OTC meds? Thanks Dawn
My psychiatrist once told me that any drug, even OTC meds., can become addictive. If you are taking it just because you enjoy the drowsy feeling, then you should stop taking it. If you are having trouble sleeping, you should tell you Dr. so he or she can help you find a better solution. Good luck.

It's the addict in you coming out, alive and strong. We want anything that will alter the way we feel. A little feels great, alot is wonderful!

Sorry kiddo, but you'll need to buck up and try to feel better on your own. People have been doing it for a million years.

Hope you do feel better really soon though.

Dawn good to see ya,
Personally speaking, the drug is just like any other for me. I abused that by taking 8-10 at a time when I was coming down from coke or just wanted a good night sleep. I have been clean and sober from everything including Benadryl for ten months. I dont take anything but Ibuprofin, ocasionally leftt over Cox II's and Multi Vitamin.
Take girl I hope you get well soon!

I still take benadryl on my work nights. I have to go to bed very early and have 2 teens in the house. Quite frankly, after the lethal cocktail I was on for so many years, it seems quite benign!

I dont know where you live, but if you live near a Wild Oats or Whole Foods, something like that.. they have homeopathic medicine for all your symptoms
that might work
What lisa and michelle said is right.... but just to add a great big congrats on recognizing your tendency and feelings and acting on it quickly... the denial that alot of people get into is just well very common.. they think that if it is otc than it is ok.. or like the ultram saying it isnt addictive. well... the point of any medication is if you are taking for other than intended or taking more than recommended or prescribed or for the 'feeling'.. than the big red flag should go up.. it doesnt matter if it is tylenol or a Multivit... if you are reacting in that fashion than stop immediately...

so Congrats and good job...
