I know i should be asking a dr. this question, its just that i dont have one. I do intend on getting one soon though. Anyway, the past few weeks Ive been getting small chest pains---like a quick pinch in my chest and then it goes away. But it keeps happening. Im 37, eat well, exercise, dont smoke--never did, and my family has no history of heart problems. Could it be the opiate abuse?

It might be anxiety but if it keeps up see your doctor. I would guess opiates can damage just about anything but I am not a doctor any more.

If not, I would mention to a DR. Pain in my chest is from Fibro but family DR made me spend the night in the hospital to be sure about 5-6 years ago. I felt like a hypochondriac but the nurses told me of 2 women - one younger and one older who waited too long b/c they didn't want to feel like a Hypochondriac and like I say, it was too late. When you go to the ER and say chest pains, they take you back immediately. I made a point of saying that my chest hurt, I was having no sharp chest pains, they still checked heart completely. Also, was told it was a good thing to get a baseline EKG and all the other test they did b/c there is heart problems in my family and the hospital will always have that info on me to see if s'thing changes. It was just the first time the fibro got me in the chest.

yea, going to a dr. would be the smartest thing to do. the pain is just like a realy quick pinch in the center of my chest. Its just that it has been happening on and off for a couple of weeks now. thanks ---
Get to a doctor ASAP. If the pain becomes heavier or prolonged call 911 or go straight to the ER. It doesn't matter what your risk factors or health behaviors are. It may be angina and there is NO waiting around to see what will happen. The only heart problems opiates cause are from IV drugs and it's called subacute bacterial endocardidis...it is an infection in your heart which is a sterile place usually on the valves. Not good. I know I was a CVICU nurse for years. It may be a good idea to take a baby aspirin a day as well. This is a standard of care. I'm not giving some crazy advise here...you can read about it on a bottle of Bayer Baby Aspirin. If the pain becomes worse then chew one 81 mg aspirin while you wait for 911. I have seen 29 year olds have massive heart attacks. This is nothing to wait and see with. CAS.

i went into the hospital several months ago, with chest pains...nice to know that i didn't damage my heart with the cocaine...they put a nitro patch on me that gave me a terrible headache...my dr didn't even order tylenol for pain...i ended up pulling the patch off of me on the second day...headache went away in 20 minutes...no heart attack, but like i said, it's great to have that information...
High blood pressure is a disease you can get from quitting the pills. If left unchecked, it can cause a heart attack or heart damage. Because you dont have a doctor, I would at least rule that out and get it taken somewhere.

i need to get off this computer--sometimes i think reading and diagnosing myself is doing me more harm than good--- now i think my liver is failing and that is whats causing me the chest pain--- im a wack job sometimes.
A friend just told me this guy we know broke out into all these sores and has only 30% of his liver functioning---he was a daily opiate abuser and drank on top of it--- another woman in her 40's died from liver failure not too long ago---also a drinker but..... i dont know.... let me stop now.... thanks for all your input--- I really apppreciate it :)

Quit it, we all have the tenancy to self diagnose. If you read enough you could basically have every disease. I am guilty of that. Check your bp and make a dr. appt.

Fire...I started having problems kinda like that...found out it was pre-menapause. You're about the right age. But difinetely something you should ask your dr as soon as you get one.

I bounce back and forth from this forum, the heroin forum, and the families forum. I remember someone talking about damage to their son's heart from drug use but for the life of me I can't be sure who it is and don't want to say the wrong one for fear of starting a panic! I remember the son was in his early 20's. It's nothing to fool around with. Please get to a doctor.

Well last night I went apesh*t at my son because he wasnt minding and i got a deeper, little bit longer pain in chest. But i did go to gym on Thurs. and I think it was like that from doing push-ups. It hasnt bothered me at all today so far. I was supposed to go to Gyno tomorrow and i was going to see if she could give me an EKG or refer me somewhere pronto. but now we are under hurricane warning so it will have to wait. If it happens at all today I think i will go to ER since my husband is home all day and can watch the kids. Cowgirl said it could be hormonal and I am pmsing and my hormones are really blown out of proportion lately-past year or so. But i will stay on top of this and i will let you know. I feel ok today though----Thank you so much for asking!!!! I hope you are feeling better too poopie!!

Your gyno is the best person to ask about the hormonal thing..most other MD's just don't get it. But I'm glad that you're being smart and if it gets worse get your butt to the ER, pronto.
