Clonidine Detox With Link To Guideline

Clonidine is primarily used for hypertension (high blood pressure). Clonidine is an a-2 adrenergic agonist, which reduces many of the physical symptoms of opioid withdrawal. The main side effect is postural hypotension, which
can be a problem even with small doses.

Before some of the newer detox methods (eg buprenorphine) Clonidine was the detox of choice used by health professionals around the world. Normally it s presrcibed along with Valium and Quinine over 7 days. Clonidine is still widely used in countries where buprenorphine is not available (eg Canada).

Go to this link Clonidine Detox(it is a PDF file) and see Chapter 4. It includes a clonidine schedule.

That's interesting, Sean. When I was w/d'ing I had a bottle of propranolol (Inderal) that my psychiatrist had prescribed for public speaking jitters. I took them for a couple of days. Not really sure if they helped or not, but maybe it was better than not taking anything at all would have been.

It's very like clonidine in action, isn't it?

Cheers,
Gina
