Cross Addictions? How Many? Which Ones?

Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering how many of you have suffered from Cross Addictions. I know it is VERY common I was just curious as to how many of them you might have had. For me pretty much all of them.

I abused alcohol first very young. Then I moved to Speed & occasionally Coke. I took downers so I could sleep during that time. During the speed days I gambled compulsively. I mean ALOT of money pissed away. We also have a home in Nevada and gambling is legal there. Ughhh!!!! After the booze, drugs and gambling were gone it transferred to eating issues. I figure now that I have pretty much run the gamut of addictions what could possibly be left? LOLOL..I am still trying to get addicted to exercise. That would require I get off my arse and head to the gym though. lol

Edited to say: This poll is not meant to be a share your old war stories poll as I know that triggers many. Me as well. I was just curious if others had gone through this as I have.

Valarie, it looks to me like the poll capability is designed to be very boolean--the answers are simply 'yes' or 'no'--and you'd have to set up your polls accordingly. I'm NOT a database person, but it looks like you'd have to design your answers in a 'multiple choice' format to include the selections you're looking for. Something like:

1) Alcohol only
2) Barbituates
3) Sex
4) Overeating
5) Items 1 and 3 only
6) Items 3 and 4
7) All The Above
8) Everything but Love

Etc.

Of course, if you really don't care what the poll results are, maybe just call everyone out for being double-fisted-drinking, weed smokin', pill poppin', coke snortin', crank shootin', meth smokin', sexed up addicts and find out how many people take offense...

I have an addiction to addictions. Anything. Sugar. Praise. Women. Alcohol. Nicotine. Caffeine. Codeine. Everything that ends in 'ine,' you name it. I would have designed a poll that said something like, "What addiction have you NOT fallen victim to...

Dang...it only allowed me to vote for one....don't know about the rest of you but I can be/have been addicted to many things...in no specific order, painkillers, bulimia/purging, exercise, cutting, relationships (still working on this one), sexual destructive behaviors, benadryl (yea, can you believe it...used to take 20 a day...how I've lived, only god knows, sugar...geez...I am sure there are more but those come to the top of my head.

SO;....keep in mind that due to the voting process it won't necressarily give accurate results.

I would love to chat with someone who understand this dangerous beast. Fortunately, I have quite a bit of time of abstinence from my ED....nothing like losing 7 teeth due to the disease. I am not kidding...had 5 rootcanals on each tooth, which never took so they ended up pulling them. I am 34 years old (35 in two weeks, ugh) and I wear a flipper (retainer type thing) and use denture products!!!!! This is the consequence of my actions.

Anyway, ANYONE who struggles with ED (anorexia,b/p, overeating, overexercising)...please feel free to email me. Trust me, this beast is just as dangerous as alcohol, in my opinion.

I may not have much sobriety time but abstinence of ED's is something I have time on and would love to be of service to anyone in need.

Thanks I will definitely email you. My ED is something that I am really struggling with. I have never talked about it on this public forum. Only my family and a friend down under knows about it.

Thanks Stacey. Definitely know I am not unique...lolol....Just seems that many of the people kind of stick to the Boards that were their last addiction so to speak so I was full of curiosity.

I have been on these boards for quite a while now and this is the first time I have even admitted it. I have admitted to myself but I seem to be stuck in cement at the moment. As I always say to one of my good friends..."I am like an ostrich...I bury my head and pretend it will go away!" LOLOLOL

Yep I have been doing the same thing. Every single day I struggle with the ED but I never really talk to anyone but one of my friends about it. This friend does not suffer from one so mostly I just vent and bleed on that person about it.

When I first popped on here I was still new to sobriety (I think about 8 months). I didn't see an ED board anywhere. I always thought at some point I would see someone who would talk of it but as of now you were the first.

I guess I should take the name of the site for what it is. Alcohol and Drug Recovery. However IMHO I think a Food Addiction is a drug. The guilt, the shame, the euphoria is all the same as drugs you ingest.

Hey Val ,my only addiction is alcohol but when I was drinking I used to take one gravol everynight to help me sleep and I have taken quite a few benadryl as well to help me sleep the nights I did not drink. so I don't know if that counts or not lol So as Idgie has said maybe this board for me too lol. oh yeah and nicotine.still puffin on them smokes.
