Hello, and welcome to the board! i wanted to tell you that davocet id not that high of a narcotic, and what i would do if i were u would be to wean down then find something non narcotic and use that for pain...i must say that I am suprised that your only on davocet, i hate that stuff, i took 9 at once and ended up in the er drinking charcol, ewwwwww... but i was so spaced out from that nasty stuff, how many are you taking daily?? can your doctor help u get off??

let me know..
Withdrawals are different for everyone, depending on your body and the amount of pain medication that you were using. You can expect some flu-like symptoms, like diarrhea, sweating, hot/cold flashes, leg cramps, etc.

Please don't be scared..... Anxiety makes withdrawals A LOT worse, so if you go into it thinking it's going to be like the flu and nothing more, the whole process will be a lot better. I got sick, but nothing that was unbearable or where I felt like I wanted to die.

Go to the store and stock up on:
* Immodium (for diarrhea.... I didn't get it bad, but some people do, so take it for a few days to prevent that)
* Gatorade (if you get diarrhea, you want to prevent dehydration)
* Advil or Motrin (for leg cramps and aches and pains)
* vitamins (take one in the morning and one at night... they help with the leg cramps and also help get your body back to being healthy)
* Benadryl or something for sleep (I take Ambien, so you can also talk to your doctor about putting you on something for a few days so that you can sleep through most of this)
* books and movies - try and stay in bed for the first 2-3 days and rest up..... After that, it really DOES help to exercise a little bit, so go for a walk, ride your bike..... anything....to get your energy up and lessen the fatigue
* Chicken Noodle Soup - keep food in your stomach; when you don't eat, you have even less energy, which can make recovery take longer
* Sudafed - for me, this did wonders.... I have upper respiratory problems whenever I go through withdrawals, so taking Sudafed in the morning helped with that and also helped combat fatigue (only take it in the morning, though, because it can make insomnia worse)

Good luck.... We're here if you need us.
Danielle
Dear mitzy,, hey thank you for your answer back .. I have new friends this is so cool. Well I am almost out of medication and am going to wean myself off but the pain is horrible and the sleepless nights are hard. Plus I have to go to work and Im a cook so I'm on my feet all day.I get so depressed and feel like Im just complaining to much about it to my wife, I feel she doesn't understand and it must be anoying to her to hear me. This is hard!!!! I take about 8-9 pills a day sometimes 10. I used to take only 4-5 but my dr. put me on oxycodone and I didn't like the addicting feeling so I went back to dvcet. But now it takes alot of dvcet to do the job and I'm tired of this roller coaster so I'm going to attempt to get off. how can my dr. help me and what about suboxone?
dear Danielle, thank you for all the info your great !!!! How long will it take? to get back to normal that is? I am so glad that people like you are out there thank you.

Hey Wenses! Welcome to the board! ......Just wanted to jump in here and ask........haven't I read on this board that Darvocet has some methadone-like properties to it? Maybe not, but if it does, wouldn't it make the w/d a little more concerning? Anybody feel free to correct me.

Good luck Wenses.....you;ve taken the first step to a better life! Congratulations!
dear Trideltmom Hi thankyou for your note . I really don't know about the methadone like properties to it but if anyone knows how I can get off these pills safely let me know..

I think a lot depends on how many darvocet u were taking a day. A years not too long and the wds arent that bad, but ddon't underestimate them. i grew up thinking they were more or less "kid stuff" but they are not. They are 2/3 the chemical structure of methadone. They are real good for pain, & pretty helful for wds, but in themselves they are definitely not as mild a narcotic as people tend to think. i know a guy who takes his whole script in half a month & then goes thru intermittant wds (he's kind of a recluse if hes even still alive) the other half. (they are interrupted by whatever happens to fall his way in between.

The question is, what r u gonna do about ur pain if u stop taking them.
brown dog, you know I think maybe I could go back on ibuprofen and deal withit it would be better than this problem I'm going threw with the pain pills
Wenses, How many darvocet are you taking a day. are you taking them for the pain , or the high. do they depress you, or are you only depressed because you have to take them? Legitimately taking pain pills because you are in pain might not be so wrong. There is so much you havent said.
Like are you taking them as prescribed, or r u buying extras. i mean really, a darvocet high isnt all that great, for most, & im not a dr or anything, but i think it would be beneficial if u provided a bit more info.
Then maybe some people here could help point out some options for you to consider and make a sound mind decision.
First thing i can say right now though, is , lighten up on urself a little & dont be real hard w the self criticism.,,it doesn't help & its probably not as true as u make it seem to urself.
brown dog, well I take about 8 darvocets a day for the pain and for the down feelings i get . Just trying to be honest! And i hate the fact that I do that. I feel really depressed about it and I'm sure the pills make me even more depressed and I don't mean to say to much of my business but me and my wife aren't together right now so that makes me even more tempted to take them before the pain comes back and I hate that too. I have a bulging disc and have been stabbed 17 times in the back area so the scare tissue makes life uncomfortable . But if I can't keep the pain pills under control I want to get off. and as you can see I cant.
Wenses, i appreciate & understand ur desire to not divulge too much, & i honestly don't want to know what u don't want me to know, cause i'm not even a little nosy, i got way too much of my own baggage that people don't need to know about (even though i tend to reveal more then i should)

This is my opinion (for whats it's worth, & please only take from it what genuinely rings true to you, cause im sure not a gospel writer)

I believe both the following are true:

1) I think you are a smart person who is calling out for help at the right time: prior to a genuine addiction. I think ( and i could be wrong) you are possibly at the preliminary stages & smart enough, or lucky enough, or blessed enough, to be catching yourself before it turns into what u don't want. Most people at this point (considering all the other serious realities surrounding you) would probably be ignoring the potential problem & say the hell with it.

2) 8 darvocet a day should not be that difficult to get off. If it were me, I think I'd cut it in half, see how you feel after a couple days. If u feel ok, go with 4 for a while & gradually make another cut. If you feel like sh.t, (for real , dont look for it so it wont be in ur head) go back up to 6 or maybe 7. then wean urself always to the point were u feel a little bad , but not real bad. Once u feel normal at that point maintain it a while before u decrease again. This will not be a bad withdrawel.

The other thing you really have to decide first is how are you gonna handle the pain. Will anti inflamitories work? Have you talked to your Dr. What about surgery, is it possible. Even though every body always says be totaly honest with your Dr., I don't know if its always the best idea when it comes to this stuff. They have all kinds of liabilities & if u raise the red flag of addiction u open a pandoras box.

I know they got some super 2nd generation anti inflamitories (like bextra i think its called) that have gotten some bad press but might still be ok.

I wish you the absolute best, & I hope that years from now when you look back at your life you will think of how wise you were to stop this thing now. Good luck with your marriage, but in all scenerios, tomorrow comes, & when it does you'll sure be glad you didn't screw it up today.
