Dating A Recovering Addict

Hi there,

My boyfriend is a recovering drug addict and lately his been having cravings for alcohol. He goes to NA meetings but I'm so scared he'll relapse. I love him so much and it would kill me to see him hurt himself again.

I need to know if there is anything I can do as a girlfriend / friend to help motivate him (not in an obvious way) to stay clean?

I would really appreciate any comments / suggestions.

Offer to go to meetings or counseling with him maybe? Refuse to be around him when he's drinking/using/obsessing about it? Don't lend him money. There isn't really much you can do. He will do what he will do regardless of what you do or don't do, say or don't say. It has nothing to do with his love for you. The drugs always come first when they're in active addiction. Nothing else matters. Join us on the family/partner board.
