Hi. You don't have to go to church or AA meetings. I understand 12-step-programmes are successful in some ways, thanks to their religious zeal and that they replace the social setting in which a drinker drinks. Contrary to popular belief and all the cliches on this site (WHICH ARE NAUSEATINGLY PREVALENT), ALCOHOLISM IS NOT A DISEASE (!!!) and it's a thing you can get over by simply addressing life issues that cause you to drink... it may be your social circle, or, more often than not, it's caused by unresolved pain that hasn't been processed. All the talk on this website about big books etc is all very well if it works for you but you must see the real issues in order to resolve them. I would read Allen Carr's books if I were you; the founders of AA were chronic smokers and they'd replaced one addiction for another. They both died of smikong related illnesses as far as I know! Smoking and drinking pour calming effects upon a troubled mind; in this way, AA is a great comfort to the lost and needy but it's not the real answer. The allen carr books are the way forward for all addictions and AA, in 100 years, will be the novelty that Freud is regarded today. I grant that all AA members find solace within the realms of each others' strengths but that's just repression and denial; to really be free, you need to address your underlying problem. Alcohol or smoking or whatever other addiction is not really the problem, it's a SYMPTOM of an unhappy life. Change your life and the symptoms will disappear. I know this as a fact! Whilst addictions seem to make life better in the short term, they don't ultimately make anything better! It's a life change that's what's needed. For example, if you're married to a wicked b**** and you drink every night, then you need to divorce your wife and the drinking will disappear! It's as simple as that! I know that addictions create their own problems but that's just life; once you get rid of the underlying cause, the addictions can then be dealt with. All this cliched bull-s*** on these pages is rubbish. Sort your life out. Get a life if you need to. Speak up! Stand tall. Don't live on your knees! Get counselling and LIVE!!!! You will find a greatly improved existence.
None preaches better than the ANT.And he says nothing!

A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging there prejudices?.

God Bless
Hi Puppet.

Good to see you here. Stoppdrinking6975 had some good advice.

And dont worry about anyone finding out about your drinking because they all probably know. The alcoholic is normally the last one to know .Its called DENIAL.
They say alcoholism is cunning bafferling and powerful .Its the only disease that tells you that you dont have it. Sometimes false pride can be our worst enemy .

Alcoholics develop a physical craving. Together with a mental obsession .That the normal or social drinkers dont get. Like you said one drink is too many and fifty drinks is not enough .
The normal drinker doesnt get that. The social drinker has a couple of drinks and they get a tipsy out of control feeling and normally thats enough alcohol for them.
The alcoholic has the same couple of drinks and he gets an in control feeling and wants to continue drinking. If you want to continue drinking no one can stop you.
But if you want to stop please consider AA as one option .Its been working for me one day at a time for almost 14 years and my life hasnt been better.
A.A. is not a religious program its all spiritual.

Good to see you here.
Puppet.
I have a feeling that the people at your church already know that you have a problem with drinking.
I think that it is brilliant that you are going to the Doctor. Remember the first step in dealing with it is by admitting it, so good for you.
There must be other meetings in your area? try one of those.
And could you do me a favour? when youre in there listening to their stories, please don't sit there thinking "i'm not like these people, they are much worse than me" If you are lucky enough not to be as badly off as they, think how far you could fall, and thank god that you have made it to the meeting before it happens to you.

Ant400000.
I don't agree with the Allen carr theory.
I read his book (as did two of my brothers) and they did nothing for us,
Just a load of old nonsense as far as we could see.
I'm glad to see that they worked for someone though.
I'm going to use the pages of my book as papers for my roll ups!!! or to wipe my arse!!
that way it won't be a complete waste of money!!!!
Hi ant ,
If these pages are bulls*** why do you bother loggong on to them.
I have been a regular here for 3 or more months and its helped me heaps, I havent drunk in that time, and i dont do aa meetings either.
Keep your chin up Puppet you will get there!!

notice that ant4 never says in his post that he personally got or stayed sober by the approach that he advocates.

anyone who attacks a method or program of recovery rather than simply positively stating his case lacks credibility.

12 Steps and the Big Book have positively influenced the lives of millions for over 70 years.
Hey guys,
Thanks for your responces but i must disagree which something. No one in my church knows about my drinking i mean, how would they know.My Church is 35km from where i live meanwhile, the drinking still goes on.I was sober for 4 days and just on Monday i had 1.5bottles of wine and last night a few.Today am dusting off again.
You guys seem to be hard talk,BUT YOU DO NOT GIVE NO SURPPORT!!!!HELLOOO!!isaid i needed help and now am drinking too death.I need support!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Puppet,
Sorry to hear you drank again. What kind of support do you have? Do you go to meetings or see a counselor or something like that? It really could help you alot. For me I go to AA to not drink or use drugs, thats what works for me. I know not everyone goes to meetings but thats all I can share about cause that is what I do to not drink. Anyway how can I help you? How are you feeling today? As far as your church..they may or may not know. Have you tried talking to your minister or pastor at your church? He may be able to help you. Please dont be embarressed or feel shameful in talking to him. Shame kills. Well take care of yourself.....stick around we need you here.
God bless
gina :)
Ant, just wanted to inform you that Alcoholism is a disease, even doctor's will tell you. Also, AA members DO dig deep inside to find out the reasons they are using alcohol/drugs to be happy or numb. I understand that it may not work for some people, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that Alcoholism is not a disease. I do agree however that AA meeting have a ton of cig smoke- lol, I used to be one of them. Anyway, I am not arguing, just throwing in my two cents. God Bless!
Hey Ant, just want to let you know that you and ALLEN CARR are wrong.
Alcoholism is a progressive disease, if you don't treat it, it gets worse, simple as that. I have read the Allen Carr books, and kept waiting for the something to change in me, it never did, I also tried his hypnotism course, also a failure.
If it worked for you then I am glad, but please do not knock what may work for others. We each have to find our way in this life, some pick the Allen Carr method, some AA some do it aolne, but whatever works for one of us may not work for all of us.
