Deterrent Drug Device

Hi ! I posted a question under MISC/General catagories and someone was nice enough to let me know to put that ???? in here. So, I sure hope someone can help.
Last week my cousin overdosed on alcohol and narcotics. He was also taking an Anti-depressant. He almost didn't pull through this one. When he was well enough, they sent him to a place in MI where they "rapidly" detoxed him, placed a device under his tongue(palate)? and then sent him home. All of this within three days.

My first question is... "What IS this device?" I know they said it will make him violently nauseous and cause him to vomitt if he drinks or does drugs. But, I have never heard of this method and I am having a VERY difficult time finding any information on what it is.
Second question.... how can you "rapidly detox" someone and
Third .... Why send him home just after 3 days when has had NO success in controlling this problem.

My family is very weird about sharing information to one another; even though we could greatly help each other. There is a lot of history here. Many alcoholics, addicts , ect. How can I help?

Thank you to anyone who can help me .... I greatly appreciate it. God Bless You! T.
I have searched and searched and I can't find anything that has to do with a device being placed nder the tongue and then being just fine within 3 days. That doesn't mean there isn't any such thing I just can't find it for you..

This article below is the only thing I could find for you.. I don't know how well it would work.... I have never tried anything like that while detoxing.. Hopefully it helped your family member.. I am sure whatever he had done was very expensive so hopefully it worked and he is living clean...The only other drug that comes to mind is Suboxone that is placed under the tongue and dissolves and stops withdrawls. It would take more than a day or two though to make him feel better and most doctors write it for at least a month or longer so that probably wasn't it.. I would suggest you try calling some rehabs in his area and just ask them. Say I know someone who wants to detox from pain pills, is their advice that can be placed under your tongue to aide in that... Or you could get out the phonebook and look for places that offer Rapid detox in your area and call them and ask them. That is what I would do...

Good luck Rae

AARODS - Anesthesia Assisted Rapid Opiate Detoxification
Anesthesia Assisted Rapid Opiate Detoxification (AAROD) is a safe and effective method to rapidly detoxify the body at the receptor level of active opiates. AAROD detoxifies the body of active opiates in 6 hours or less under the medical care of an anesthesiologist and skilled nurses. The AAROD procedure is safely conducted in a clinically equipped medical/surgical area by staff trained and experienced in the AAROD procedure.

AAROD has been used worldwide for the past 10 years and has shown to provide successful outcomes much higher than traditional methods of detoxification. With AAROD, the patient's withdrawal is greatly reduced in length and severity of withdrawal symptoms. The major effects of withdrawal occur while the patient is asleep and stabilized under controlled anesthesia.

With AAROD the hospital stay is much shorter than traditional rapid opiate detoxification, which can last several days. Other dependency producing drugs such as methadone are not used to replace the opiates and accomplish withdrawal. The patient is able to immediately enter continuing care, and return to work, family, and normal activities much sooner than traditional detoxification methods.

Under the monitored care of a licensed Anesthesiologists (MD), the patient is put under deep sedation for four to six hours with general anesthesia. Administration of the opiate antagonist and a pharmaceutical formula of several medications then flush out the existing active opiates from the patient's opiate receptor sites. Vital signs are monitored at all times, checking for blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, oxygen intake and medicinal delivery.

The actual detoxification process (detox under anesthesia) requires a licensed Anesthesiologist (MD) and two nurses who are specifically trained in the AAROD procedure and who will be present at bedside throughout the entire process.

During this rapid opiate detoxification, the patient is completely sedated, experiencing the procedure without significant detoxification withdrawal. The patient is then carefully monitored in an in-patient setting and is typically released within 24-48 hours of admittance, after a medical examination and a continuing care program has been arranged...
the only thing that I know of that would cause nausea and vomiting would be Antabuse, but i thought it was in pill form only
This is all I found as well that goes under the tongue.

Buprenorphine is available in two forms: a sublingually (under the tongue) administered tablet containing only buprenorphine (Subutex), and a sublingually administered tablet containing buprenorphine and the opioid antagonist (blocker) naloxone (Suboxone). Suboxone eliminates the danger of abuse of the opioid component of the medication: administered sublingually, only the buprenorphine is absorbed, but if the patient attempts to inject Suboxone, the opioid antagonist blocks the effect of the buprenorphine. Subutex and Suboxone are manufactured by Reckitt-Benkiser.

I know some on here have gone thru the Rapid Detox, hopefully they will respond soon for you.

I've heard Tim discuss rapid detox if the same.

So glad he's okay and hope he gets "it together" while he's young.

Love,
Jean
I am thinking that it is Naltrexone.....but the under the tounge thing throws me off.....It is placed under the skin, described as pellets.....
It is used by many when they come out of detox, including rapid detox. It will make him sick if he drinks while it is implanted..... now with the opiates, well I thought it had no effect just didn't let the user fell the high. There are some who have od'ed while the implant was in place because they don't feel that high....yet there body knows the drugs are there......
Naltrexone is a good preventative method to keeping things in check.......
Damn where is Silent Partner when you need him...because this I know he knows a lot about......
Well my best guess.....You should call the rapid detox and ask what it is....and he should have been informed of the dangers of using.....but then I know just where that goes.....
Good luck to all of you,
Love,
Tina
Each one of you have been really GREAT!! Thank you sooo much for the help and caring good wishes. I have read many posts and there are such good people that come in and out of the message boards.
From what I can gather "second hand" from my family is that he was detoxed with some kind of anesthesia and sent home with three different kinds of medicines and the implant. so, I am pretty sure the one under his tongue was the Subutex ... the others I don't know. His mom wont let him take one of them. My family can really get under my skin. I know what it is like to struggle with addiction. And letting things go is exactly what allowed Jonathan to get this far out. I love each one of my family members and it breaks my heart when they just weather the storm and then as soon as they see light they forget about what a heck of a storm they just came out of.
I am sooo sorry. I didn't mean to go on. Anyways... I REALLY do appreciate ALL of your help. It has been wonderful to reach out and actually find people who care...You all take care now ok!!!
blessings to each of you

Ok now I am real confused.....
Cause well the sub I ruled out right away, because you can not be on sub and have any naltrexone implant......You would be sick to death all the time.....
You really need to find out what is implanted, what he is taking......Because I trust no doctors anymore, especially anyone who has to do with rapid detox, the horror stories are numerous.....
And may things can be desolved under the tounge...and vitamins, like B12 come to mind......and in this situation that makes sense to me.
