Disease Theory Edit

Maybe the "Doctor" is making rounds at the hospital or the V.A.
If you would all do just listen to what the doctor says, you will save yourseves a lot of work. Listen to what he says people! The few dollars is worth not having to go to meetings every month. The steps were a waste when I did them.
I spent less than 500 dollars to get well his way. I have been clean now for 3 months, I feel great. I am lonely, but I am told I should be.

Lonely in Recovery
it's what is called a 'multiple' problem.

someone writing to themselves AND writing back to themselves!

and pretending to be a shrink...3 people at once.

you can't save your face and your a** at the same time,
and that's what it is about now that her/his a** is in a sling.

but she/he is only digging a deeper hole.

didn't take you guys too long to figure her/him out, did it?

right on kysharron.
I surely dont want to try naybodys way that is posting to support themselves and look like followers or groupies that is a fine example of this being a self centered disease Holy crap isnt that a disease called multiple personalities? You all trip me out this is like playing real live CLUE?
this thread reminds me of the movie[identity],some serious mulitable personality disorder, ooooooohhhh this is some creepy s***[lmao].
That is hilarious posting as 2-3 people and Dantes follower

Hi you might think that this is Pam, but you are wrong, I am Dante...NOT...

He's too full of BS for me. I personally think that this is the biggest crock that this board has ever seen and Lord knows we have seen our share.

Yeah, do what Vinny says, all of you know that the good doc Vinny is never wrong about chit.....For real.
You may think this is Ali. Its Ali's sister Amanda, Amanada Hugankiss. She actually got 27 people clean with Dantes method. She took a second mortgage out on her trailer and sold her car but she got them clean. Thanks Dante!

She was going to try the method on herself next. Lets pray!

Lost in my mind
Hi,

My name is Darrie and I'm a grateful, recovering addict. I am new here but have been around other recovery sites and have found them all helpful in my journey.

My drug of choice was Vicodin, although I would take just about anything in a pinch. I've been clean over 4 years now and while I have only had experience with the 12 steps, I'm sure there are other methods of recovery that may work for any individual. In other words, recovery is where you find it and if you're ready for it. For this addict, I had to almost die before I was ready. I didn't know where to turn and eventually, I found my way into the rooms of Narcotics Anonymous. For me, it was the place to be. I didn't understand everything spoken but then again, I didn't have to in the beginning. All I needed was a desire to stop medicating myself, shut up and listen. That's what I did. I listened to people who have been through what I went through and how they got clean. They didn't judge me because I was a pill addict (most were heroin users and crack heads in my group), but rather, they embraced me and helped me get through life clean, one day at a time. For that alone, I am not only grateful, but I strongly resent anybody coming to a recovery site and saying there is something wrong with a system that has helped some many. I would seriously question the motive of somebody that has an issue with any program that strives to help people who need help.

Again, recovery is where you find it. Keep it at that. Trying to rationalize whether addiction is a disease or not disease is not the issue. Recognizing that you have a problem and taking the responsibility to get into the solution is. For me, and countless others, NA and other 12 Step fellowships is the answer. Is it for everyone? Maybe not. But you won't hear this addict bad mouthing other modalities. If they work for you, they're a good strategy. Achieving the objective of living life without mind altering substances is what its all about.

Thank you for letting me share.

Love,
Darrie
welcome Darrie!
Thank you Miss Kate!

Man oh man.. what a complete crock.

I really love the pseudomedical explanation that "real disease progress but if you are locked away from alcohol it doesnt progress so it isn't a disease" LOL!!

So coeliac disease isn't a real diease.. just lock yourself away from gluten, photosensitivty isn't a real disease, just lock yourself in the dark!! Don't worry if you have Phenylketonuria because it isn't even a disease! All those years you had to avoid phenylalanine and you thought you had a disease! How silly of you!

Now you can argue until you are blue in the face of what it means that addiction is a disease. The fact it is that addiction has been classified as a disease for yonks. Not by addicts, but by Drs.

Addiction is completely describable and follows a predictable path. In terms of medical classification of conditions, addiction is easily classified. It is a pathological condition of a system resulting from various causes including environmental factors and possibly genetic pedisposition. It is characterised by an identifiable group of signs or symptoms.

Now just because it is classified as a disease, does not mean it can't be helped or that the addict claims it isn't their fault. There is nothing that says you have to catch or inherit a disease. Diseases are merely a classification system.

The real debate is what it means to have the disease, how to arrest it and how to lead a life where it is managed. Don't get sucked in by analogies that are based on false assumptions.

Now that said, there is more than one way to skin a cat and people use different methods to work recovery. The disease classification does not prescribe a recovery method.

Find your way and work it.

Welcome Darrie!

SP, great post.

Rachel
