I am just curious because I see people here who seem to be here 24/7 and I wonder if they are home alone all day, or if they visit this site from work?
Angela, I have always wondered about this myself. Sometimes I read the board at work but don't log in to post it's just to busy at my job. Good poll. Shantel
I am a senior caregiver, so I work when I have clients, I just started my gal that had breast canser that went to her lungs. She is doing fine, not bed ridden yet, but starting to get tired. She knew I was not working, so asked if I could help her a few hrs a day for now. I kinda think she did that so I don't get another FT client, and then not have time for her.
So I guess you can consider me a 3/4 time housewife & mom, and 1/4 time work..

Traci, I don't know if I could handle your job? I think I am to emotional, I would take it home with me.
Shantal, yeah I wonder about the work thing because I wouldn't want to be on a site like this on a computer at work. I mean that'sust asking to get fired. My company even moneters (sp?) our e-mails. And like I said, when I check in here, usually every morning it seems like there are members who seem to always be on. It just got me wondering if they are home alone all the time? very comitted to the board? or what ever?

Angela, I let my husband read the board. At work they know about my past addiction but I wouldn't want them reading the board. We use internet explorer at work so all they can tell from the history is I go to my aol account that's how I access this site at work. I think alot of members here are stay at home moms. Shantel

Hey its a life i always looked forward to when i WAS working,,,
There were days i would go to work and think only of the day that i wouldnt HAVE to go to work...
Its not all that you think it will be...lolol
I had more energy when i was working...and though i dont miss the WORK I do miss the having something to do or somewhere to go - having someone that counts on my presence...
I live for the hour my hubby gets home every day, and for the weekends that hes off...thats probably not a good thing, but its true..Now that its winter its dark when he gets home and i hate being alone when its dark ouside...
When i was working i would think how great it would be to sleep in everyday if i wanted to..I would take all types of classes....Italian, sushi making, poetry, writing courses...and you start to do that at first...but even that becomes of less interest after a while....
So here i sit..doing what i can to make a nice home, pay bills, make great dinners, be a superb wife....popping on and off the computer, scratching chores off my list at a pathetically slow rate.....waiting till hubby gets home...
My life sounds just awful doesnt it????..
and sort of sad and pathetic....
The grass is always greener on the other side..
Hugs

Ali, well I am glad you have this board and all the great people here to keep you company during the day. Maybe you could volentere (sorry sp?) at like a ymca or something 15 hours a week? That would be fun and rewarding, you would meet new people, and get out of the house. Just A thought? I am sorry you are alone so much, I know that takes it's toll. I spent about 3 months this summer in my house with no outside contact when my husband left me, and it really sucked. I was so sad and depressed, it's hard to be alone.
Traci, I truely don't know how you do it? I am a firm believer in what goes around comes around....so hunny you are in for some real good stuff! and I wish it for you!
Shantel, That's cool about your work. So they know your whole deal and are good with it? I don't know about you but it seems like each and almost every day I meet someone who is addicted or is related to someone who is addicted to pain pills. I truely can't believe how many people are hooked on this garbage? sad..very sad.

Hey Angela! Good to see you! I am semi-retired and very grateful to be able to not have a full time job outside of the home. I haven't had a full time job in about 16 years, thank you God.
BUT I have had a few part time jobs, and I do have an 11 year old who is a full time job. LOL Also, I have my jewelry business, which keeps me hopping more than I would prefer these days. During my years at home, I have always some sort of little venture like the jewelry. I have to have something to keep me busy and accountable. Sitting around doing nothing day in and day out gets very boring, and I started to feel useless, so I came up with misc. projects to occupy my time and make me feel productive.
Hope you are doing well!
Angela, I work in a doctors office. Alot of the people who use to supply me with pills still come into where I work as patients. Since the doctor who I work for knows about my past he always gives me a heads up as to when they are coming in but I have worked for him since 1989 so he knows my whole history and supports me. Shantel
yeppers - i work full time angela and then some. i love to give back to society and not to sound like some kind of altruistic freak (because i enjoy the money i make and put it to good use) but if i were in the position financially that i didn't need a paycheck to meet my living needs, i would do my work gladly without pay.
blessed is the word that comes to mind when i think of the job(s) i do today. you know, there was a great tennis player who died a while back named arthur ashe. arthur hailed from the city i live in and i still have very fond memories of a yearly cookout the musician's union would hold here that arthur's father would cater. my dad was president of the musician's union and always chose to surround himself with so many beautiful people whose heart's were pure gold. arthur's father was one of them and it appears that he taught arthur well. arthur once said: "from what we get, we can make a living; what we give, however, makes a life."
i love to share my gifts and my good with those who touch my life.

I work WAY WAY TOO MUCH ......full time and would love to work less.... this weekend, for a change, I'm not even going to check my work emails or answer my cell phone.
In business, it seems as if the demands for response turnaround time are getting shorter and shorter - clients email me late at night, and are peeved if they do not have a full response within the hour (even well outside of work hours) or at least by 7:30am the next morning.
It is truly ridiculous and I don't work in a life or death business.
I was a senior manager in the consulting division of a public accounting firm, and am now an exec. in a human resources outsourcing firm..... people (clients) wait until the last minute and then THEIR lack of planning becomes OUR problem. ARGGH. I've had a bad week!
And has anyone noticed - people seem to be getting ruder by the day. Everywhere - work, at the store, driving, etc.
I try to slow down and "smell the roses" and focus on little things that make me happy. AND I have a great husband to come home to!

Sue:
I have been working a lot, too. Gratefully, today was my last day until January 2nd. I have been experiencing exactly what you are talking about. My new mantra, as of late, has been Your lack of planning is not my emergency. Obviously, I don't say it out loud but it goes through my head, daily, lol.
Cheers,
~Rachel

I am fortunate enough right now to be able to stay home, and raise my little ones.
My son will be starting school full time in two years so then I will be going back to it.
I am however considering going back to school full time instead of working, it is important to me to get that degree finished, has taken me long enough already...........lol

Traci,i too am a Home health aide.My lady is 89....soon to be 90 and shes as sharp as a tack! Her health is going down hill but her mind is still alll there. She still goes out twice a week to exercise at the Wellness center, gets her hair donw once a week, and sometimes comes with me when i do her grocery shopping. It is a very rewarding job. I work about 30 hours a week now, depending on her needs, some weeks more, and some less.
It sure can get quite stressfull running evry aspect of someone elses life while your own gets neglected.Thats how ive been feeling lately,but...she wont be here forever so,i do what i can for her "now" while she is still "here".~KIM
PS~Jody(Java)i was lucky enough to be able to stay at home with my children too.Theres plenty to do once youre ready to get back out there.Going back to shcool is awesome,i envy you in that regard.
I dont understand when they say there is shortages of jobs though, there is plenty of work,at least in my area.

I'm retired (thank God!!) I was home raising my 5 kids for 20 years and very glad to get back to work part time. Most of the time I worked was part time but I did work as admin. a**'t full time for a year (and hated it!) It was that, or quit. I finally did leave that job and go back to part-time which I always loved. It was interesting work dealing with students and I loved it most of the time I was doing it. I was SO relieved to get away from kids and babies after all those years. It was SO much easier. I'm glad I went back to work for the small amount of pension I am able to collect. Everything is a help. Interesting topic.
I work full time at a golf course in food and beverage, winter hrs has me home a bit more but I also have my mom to look after. I work less days but average 12 hr days.
I just got a FT job today!!!!! YEAH!!!!! im so stocked!!!!!!

Congrats on the job
The best possible thing for anyone would be to work at something that you love, and that if you werent paid a nickel for youd want to do anyway..
Something that brings you passion....
Hard to find that scaling teeth, so dont miss that at all...but hubby has always said that regardless of the job title; one must do for a living, that you must do it to the absolute best of your ability....
Sanitation dept or lawyer, you should find dignity in the fact that you do your very best at it...
Anyway Pants, congrats on your new job..hope it works out well for you..
