I'm struggling to cope with smoking weed. I don't want to give it up but it is destroying my life and I know this but why don't I ever do anything about it? I really like smoking in the evening with my girlfriend after work but what used to be just that it's now smoking loads in the night and when ever I'm not doing anything. I have even fallen behind on payments but have still got green.I know I need to give it up but went cold turkey yesterday and could not cope just became really down and upset and started to break. It has been a big part of my life for 5 years now. I have a full time job and have never been late or let green affect me in anyway like that but it still manages to control me. I really want help but ain't got a clue? Just want to be happy again and in control before I lose everything.
Hi Dave,
Welcome to the Board.
I think the fact that you have looked up this board and that you have posted means you are seriously thinking of quitting or at least you wish you could quit smoking weed.
As an ex-pot smoker who smoked weed for more than 25 years on a daily bais, I know exactly how you feel. I used to enjoy smoking weed every single minute of the day. In fact, it came to a point where it controlled my life. You may not think that it controls yours, but personnally I think that is what pot does to us. I used to envy people who did not smoke. I wanted to be like them but I just couldn't stop smoking the darn thing until one day three years ago I decided enough was enough. I'm not going to lie to you Quitting weed was not easy, but you know what, it was the best thing I ever did. So, give it a try. Do it one hour at a time. Drink lots of water. Be good to yourself. Take naps, go for walks and read everything you can about addiction to weed.
Be strong. Keep posting.

Cheers man! The only reason if I'm honest the only reason I'm giving up is I'm so skint that I can't afford it. I really wanna try but when yesterday I turned into a monster crying down and just not me. But then I'm not me if I've been smoking so long. I have almost lost my girlfriend over it because she can't handle it but I need her more than ever I really wanna beat this! People have said I should set a date and slowly ease my way off it. All I know is that 2012 is not gonna be the same as 2011. That I know.
Well Dave, so far, you've given a couple of reasons why you want to quit smoking weed.
1) You can't afford it financially.
2)You are about to lose your girlfriend because of your addiction to weed.
3)You say 2012 well be a different year.
4)You are turning into a monster.
4) You really want to quit smoking weed.
Aren't those good enough reasons for you to quit smoking weed today?
I am not going to lie to you. Quitting weed is hard but its alot better going through our daily lives without it than with it!
Most people I know who have tried to quit smoking weed, can't! You need alot of determination and will to stick to your decision to be free of this drug. But one thing I do know is that you can't do it for your girlfriend or anybody else but YOURSELF. It's up to you to decide the kind of life you want to lead.
Here are a few things that happened to me since I quit:
I am much, much more happier.
I am not so broke financially.
I have all my mind.
I am not so paranoid.
I don't have panic attacks anymore.
I am alot more social.
I've bought myself a little gift every month I didn't smoke weed.
I've managed to save enough money to go on a trip to Brazil.
I just bought myself a laptop to celebrate my third year anniversary without weed. I paid for it cash. 700$
When I see other people around me smoking weed, I always asked myself why do they do that?
I love life alot more.
Went for an interview for a job and I got it. Before I was just too paranoid or lazy to go looking for a new job.
I am not a slave to weed anymore.
I've always love doing yoga but couldn't afford to go to classes when I was smoking weed. Now, I go to yoga classe at least three times a week and I'm now taking a Yoga Teacher Training Course. There is no way I could remember anything that I am studying for to become a yoga teacher if I was still smoking weed!
Think about it?
Be strong.

oh Matey, I feel ya.
Good on you for getting onto this site. You've had some amazing advice right there, from a very wise and supportive lady. (Way to go Fleur, I love your positive list, gave me a big big smile, and I could relate to so many points).
It isn't easy, but it's defintely achievable. Fleurs right though, you have to wanna do it for you. You are the only one in control of your life, and you are the driving force of your own recovery. You are in the drivers seat, so grab the wheel, and focus man. Giving up weed will open you up to a world you can only dream about now. It's a cunning littl thing ol' weed. It can blind you, and make recovery seem almost impossible. But I'm telling you it is possible. It took me nearly three years, and a few relapses, but I'm now 8 months clean. I never thought I could make it this far, but now I can't imagine having not given up. Life is truely amazing when you're clean.
It helps to have support (of non smokers). Find like minded people who will truely support and understand you. There's safety in numbers :)
Find a hobby, or get back into something you used to love. Fill the "gap" with healthy positive things. What do you like to do? What brings you joy?
Big strength to you my friend, you can do this!! Keep posting,

As my date approaches I'm gearing myself up for it and am looking forward to it. Am gonna do the buy a present every month I'm clean but I know now that this is it.
I gotta be honest without the support of the people on this board it would be so much harder! Thanks guys!

Hey Missy,

MONTHS without any weed.AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!
I know it hasn't been easy for you but hey... who said it was going to be easy. It seems like there is nothing easy in life.
For example, I've been doing yoga for a couple of years now and even when I was in my 20's and I would go to yoga classes, I used to think... I would love to teach yoga someday. It can't be that hard, I thought.
Well, after I came out of my first Yoga Teacher Training Course and they told us all it took to become a teacher training, the language we had to used, the philosophy we had to learn in regards to yoga, etc. etc etc. I thought, OMG, there is no way I will ever be able to teach yoga. I thought it would be alot more simple than that. Well, I'm slowly beginnng to learn how to teach it and I love it. It takes alot of concentration to teach a class and to learn all about the anatomie and so forth, but I think in the long run i am going to graduate from the class in April. One thing I do know for sure though is that there is no way in this world I would be able to learn everything I have to learn to become a yoga teacher if I was still smoking weed.
You were in school last time we talked. Are you still in school? Did you graduate? How's life? You seem pretty happy. Your post to Dave is truly inspiring. I really, really hope he reads it twice and realizes that what you have written is so true!
Can't wait to hear from you again.
Happy Holidays!

Good evening Mr. Dave,
First, I would like to say that I think you are dong good if you have managed to slow down that much on the weed.Three joints since December 21st, not bad considering the first couple of days are the worse when we quit. December 21st, was the first day of winter. New beginnings!
Way to go Dave.
I also think its a great idea that you alone have decided on a date. It shows me you are going to do this first and foremost for yourself and not because someone else is telling you to quit on this or that date or else...
I thought about it for six months before I quit. I bet you are looking forward to the day you have decided to quit. That first morning of your quit date will be the true beginning of a new life for you. That first morning be strong, tell yourself you can do it. One thing I kept saying to myself in the beginning was. MIND OVER MATTER, MIND OVER MATTER, MIND OVER MATTER, MIND OVER MATTER. I also had a dog back then. Holy marcaroni did we go for walks alot him and I in the beginning. He loved it. But I also went outside alot when the cravings became to hard to endure. I would take short walks, long walks, any kind of walk as long as I could be outside and enjoy nature, ook at the trees, the stars, the moon, listen to the birds, etc. etc.
And I drank aloooooooooooooot of water. Try getting some OMEGA 3 vitamins. It will help you.
Until then, keep posting. I am looking forward to hearing from you again.
BE STRONG!

Well, well. Mr. Dave is back in the house! YES!
First of all, ((((((((((((((((((((((((((CONGRATULATIONS ))))))))))))))))))))))) on the number of days you have not smoked any weed. UROCK! I am truly happy for you. You already see a change in yourself. Isnt't that great. And the most important thing, is that your life will only get better and better and better without it. I cannot tell you how my life has changed since I quit the weed. To this day, I am amazed at myself considering I used to wake up and roll a joint first thing in the morning and of course I would never go to bed at night without having smoked at least five joints during the evening.
Secondly, I think it is great that you are going for a job interview on Friday, I am sure you will do good. Please let me know how it went? What type of work are planning to do?
I celebrated my third year free of weed on December 30th. And as always, I wanted to take a picture to remember that day. So, I went outside at night wondering what I could take a picture of. Funny, the first thing I saw were three beautiful Christmas trees one beside the other. So, I took a picture of them and I will have them printed out. I will buy a frame and place the picture in it. Nobody will really know why I took a picture of these trees but me. I also bought myself 540 $ of yoga classes to celebrate my time without weed. Paid cash. Never could have done that if I still smoked weed. Its so nice to do little things like that for ourself heehee!
So, keep up the good work Dave. I am really looking forward to hearing from you again.
Keep posting!

Don't forget to buy some OMEGA 3.

Dave I have lost everything a corporate job of twenty years 180 thousand in 401K. Please while you still have a chance just stop. Don't be afraid to stop just simply say I quit it is not working for me any longer you don't have to have an excuse. If you simly can't quit then without out doubt you must seek others who have quit sucessfully maybe you will be the first in your crowd to help others who desire the same in your crowd.
Well done Dave!!! It is soo super cool to read your posts and see your progress keep it up!! I am also on the road to recovery. As all the comments states - be good to yourself and drink that water - sounds silly I know but it is working for me.
Keep strong!

Note: Don't forget to get yourself some vitamins like Omega 3. It helps with the depression side of not smoking weed anymore.

Awwwwwwwww Angie, that is too sweet what you wrote about me. Sometimes, I wonder if I am not preaching too much on this site or saying too much to people who want to quit their addiction to weed.
I am just happy to help people out the best that I can. I've been where many of you are and all I know is that I am a happier person today for not smoking weed. I just want to share my happiness and what I have learned from my journey to a drug free day.
Angie, you have made my day. I had a hard weekend and nice to know there are people like you out in this world who appreciate me. Thank you.
