You had recommended pills anonymous to Rachel.... I just saw you on that board, but didn't feel like registering to talk to you when I could get in touch with you on here... lol.....
Are there any meetings in the New Orleans area?
lol - it's fine to talk with me here, danielle - although PA is my stomping ground and has been for some time now.
unfortunately, there are no PA meetings in cajun country, but that's no reason why someone couldn't start one! we suggest that if you are familiar with 12 step meetings, have worked or are working the steps, and have a desire to start a PA meeting we will provide you with all the literature and support you need to do so. i do know that there are a scads of NA meetings in your neck of the woods and after getting your feet wet with 12 step programs just let me know and i will be more than happy to forward this info to you.
i did a quick search for "prescription drugs anonymous" and "rx anonymous". i know cindy mogul is the founder of rx anonymous and their home base is in georgia. i saw they mentioned where there something like 8 meetings available (may be more, since that was an old link). she did have an email addy listed to write for info for meetings. she has authored a book about her recovery from prescription drug addiction and i had the pleasure of meeting her in an online meeting when she agreed to share her story. the other one i found, "prescription drugs anonymous" is in pennsylvania and lists that they have 3 meetings. i don't know anything about that organization. you can google these two and find out where to write if you are interested.
it's kind of funny when i hear pill addicts say they have trouble relating or feeling welcomed in NA because their drug of choice is prescription drugs as opposed to street drugs. a little trivia here - the first members of NA consisted for the most part pill heads, which i found quite interesting.
hey - thanks for writing to me sweetheart. i'm back at work today catching up from the last 4 days off. whew! i'm beginning to see wood underneath this mound of paper! wowsa - there is actually wood here! :O
hugs to you -

Sammy, starting a pills anonymous meeting in the New Orleans area sounds like a great project for me..... I am happiest when I have a "baby", something to work on and occupy my time. When I quit binge drinking in 1998, I started concentrating really hard on getting my black belt in karate. I drank almost a bottle of Jager or tequila a night when I would go to work (but never at home or during the day), but working towards a goal helped me, gave me something constructive to do. I am the type of person that HAS to be addicted to something, but it works in my favor if I'm doing something good.
Of course, I've only gone to 2 AA meetings, so I'm not familiar enough with the 12 step program or been in recovery long enough to run something like that.... yet it's probably something that would help me for a lifetime.....
