My son is an addict. We have told him that he can not stay at the house anymore. He was in jail for about 8 days and got out 2 days ago. He's asking to be allowed to sleep in his car which is parked out back. Is this ok or should we say no
Pam,
It's hard to give advice without knowing more of the situation. How old is he? Is there a reason he can't take his car? If he's an adult and the car is legally his. I would tell him he'll have to sleep in the car elsewhere. It's not helpful to you and your life to have him living out of a car on your property. Stopping the enabling process is twofold. First it forces the addict to deal with their own issues and reap the consequences of their actions. Second, it's to give you back your sanity and life so that you don't have to constantly live the addict life. Good luck.
